Are you kidding me? What a Win

Marble is pretty darn close to a super star. At times he looked unstoppable yesterday. He plays the game so smooth and is probably going to end up being remembered as one of the greatest Hawkeye players ever.

He is at his best when he's attacking and so is the team. I don't think a lot of people understand how difficult of a shot that little floater out of a full speed sprint in transition he hit about 5 times yesterday is. Probably the toughest type of shot there is. Takes a ridiculous amount of touch.

I said all off season for Iowa to contend for a B10 title Marble was going to have to be a first team All B10 type of player, well through four games he's been that good or better. 19.8 ppg on 46% shooting, 4.3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2.5 steals, he's going to be in contention for B10 player of the year.

I'm not quite ready to go that far just yet, since the toughest part of our schedule still lies ahead of us. He's definitely playing at a B1G POY level right now, but Appling/Harris and Dekker will be pretty stiff competition for that honor.

I think the toughest part of our schedule is behind us. We play all 4 of the other top tier teams on the road. Those are our 4 toughest conference games. We have already played 2 of those games and are 1-1...and were the underdog in both. At Michigan State may be the only game the rest of the year in which we aren't favored.

I believe this is true. He is so smooth at times that it is almost amazing. He drove down the middle through the Ohio State team without being touched and made a layup. You know they wanted to slam him but couldn't lay a finger on him. Also, nobody knows what he is going to do with the ball most of the time. His teammates do know that he will pass it to them if they are open and have a higher percentage shot....

Beginning with MSU, we play the top four teams at least once (we play MSU twice). We also travel to Illinois (They look like they might be a schizo team this year, but I'll never take a trip to Champaign lightly), Minnesota (same here), Indiana (they're inconsistent, but they've got talent and it's on the road) and PSU (they're going to knock someone off in State College this year; just hoping it won't be us).

You might be able to argue that the trips to Wisconsin and OSU were the two toughest games, but the back half of the schedule is a meatgrinder with few (if any) gimmes. We'll be favored in most of those games, but Ohio State was favored yesterday.

How? I consider Iowa, MSU, Wisky and OSU the top 4 teams in the B1G. The Hawks have already played 2 of those teams on the road in the first 4 conference games.

QUOTE=doclee;1244927]OSU's guards are supposed to be the best defenders in the BT. That means they have to be very quick. I don't disagree, but my conclusion is that Gesell is a LOT faster/quicker than we think. He blew by them several times on Sunday, as did Marble.
Am I dreaming, or did anyone else notice this?[/QUOTE]

I must agree, Doc, we took Craft out of the game and he usually dominates games against the best in the Big Ten even without being relied upon to score.....

This Iowa team is one very good basketball team.

Lol, remember all those live game threads we did over on the old hawk forum on hawk central during the Lickliter years. I shutter just remembering those years and those of us who were sadistic enough to keep coming back during each live game threads. Ok, maybe sadistic was a bit strong maybe diehard would have been a better word. Thank goodness for heavy medication options back then, lol. It feels so great to know on any given night we are good enough to play with anyone even on their home court. It was really fun watching on my DVR the second half that I missed because I had to go to work. When we fell behind by nine in the second half I had to go check the calander to make sure it wasn't an April fools joke. Coming back from being down that far just made it that much more rewarding. Can't wait for the next game.
