Are you kidding me? What a Win

It was a great win, much needed to close out one against a higher rated team.

great defense most of game, low on turnovers, good FT shooting, good half court offense

most complete game of the year and it shows this teams potential

Feels good to see these guys feel a win like this. Had everything..on the road…top five…national tv. Nice to see them hit their free throws down the stretch and lock up a game on the road. Go Hawks!!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this team can be scary good if they put it all together. Best win by a Iowa bb team in many years

This was a great performance all the way around.

Marble made it look too easy in the first half and was money from the line today (God, it felt good to have some confidence in him on FT's again).

White was pretty quiet (although effective) for quite awhile, but he made some noise in the second half.

Basabe had one of the quietest great games I've seen 11 points and 10 boards, and his put back on Marble's fadeaway miss was critical.

Uthoff was Uthoff. He's going to be a special player for us.

Oglesby and Gesell were huge. Oglesby proved he can hit big shots in big moments, and his backdoor cut basket showed just how valuable he can be to this offense. Mike stayed calm and played within himself, showing a much better feel for when to push to the rim and when to dish it off. He also hit all four free throws, including a couple clutch ones. Hopefully that'll get him past the mental block.

McCabe definitely had a rough day; just couldn't buy a basket. Woodbury and Olaseni didn't have particularly good or bad games. Just kind of lackluster.

The way this team closed today was impressive, and I honestly felt like we were going to win when we erased that 9-point deficit with Marble on the bench. This team has serious potential, and now that they've got that big win (even bigger since it's a road win), I'm very optimistic for the rest of the season. Our schedule gets VERY tough once Michigan State rolls in, where the easiest games on the schedule are @PSU and @Purdue, both of whom I think will knock off one of the top teams in their buildings. But after a win like this, the team has concrete evidence that says they can win anywhere. Up until now, this team has been largely all hype. But now, thanks to CBS, the entire country knows that this team is for real.

What felt best of all was to see us come back from that 2nd-half deficit. You are probably being less than honest if you try to claim you weren't thinking, "Here we go again," when we went down 9 in the 2nd-half - we have seen that SO much.

But the trey of treys was SO huge. And it was the way it has to be done at Iowa - all in rotation, from three different players, in three different sets, from three different points on the floor.

After that, it was the Melsahn Basabe rebounding show, plus the Hawkeyes FINALLY hitting their key free throws.

Oh, and one more thing. Iowa may have become a B1G darling today by making Aaron Craft absolutely stink in his home arena. He had as many turnovers as he did points, and actually got called for a large enough fraction of his dozens of fouls to foul out of the game.

Loved your post, but can't agree with this. Basabe started the game out well for us with a couple of good post lay-ups. And then he had EVERY key rebound down the stretch. And he, not Marble, was the guy that set the tone for our free throw makes, converting three of four.

Of all the good performers and performances, Melsahn was my player of the game.

Like I said, he played a great game. But it wasn't flashy like Marble's. I thought a couple times that Basabe was playing well, but his final numbers kind of snuck up on me.

Hawks get Purdue in Carver. Our one plays this year are @Indy and @PSU and home against Nebraska and Purdue.

Agree 100% said the same thing during the game. Mel was HUGE.

Really happy for the players and the coaches. Nice monkey to get off their back. This team is already special and there is really no ceiling to how good they could be with 11 guys able to contribute.

Loved seeing the 26 mins from Uthoff and Fran keeping him on the floor for most of the second half. The Marble-Gesell-Uthoff-White-Basabe line up with JO and Woody getting some minutes for Mike and Basabe was great. That's the 7 man rotation we need to ride in games like this with Zach, Gabe and Clemmons just getting spot minutes unless they are really playing well.

Whoops. Still, I stand by PSU. They're going to get somebody; maybe us, maybe not. But Frazier/Newbill are too good for them to not knock off one of the top teams.

OSU's guards are supposed to be the best defenders in the BT. That means they have to be very quick. I don't disagree, but my conclusion is that Gesell is a LOT faster/quicker than we think. He blew by them several times on Sunday, as did Marble.
Am I dreaming, or did anyone else notice this?

Gesell definitely has some quicks. He'll be a pretty special player over the next couple years.

I noticed. He's finally catching up to the speed of the major college game. Gesell will get a lot more attention next year as he will be the primary backcourt player.

The thing i like best about our current team is that we have senior leadership..something an Iowa team has not had in a long long time for many reasons. There also are no superstars..Just real solid players that play bb the way I like to see it played..AS A TEAM.. No hogging the ball to 'get mine'.. that is the one thing I really dislike about teams that get that superstar. Say what you want ,but i much prefer this team to one like the Kentuckys.

Marble is pretty darn close to a super star. At times he looked unstoppable yesterday. He plays the game so smooth and is probably going to end up being remembered as one of the greatest Hawkeye players ever.
