The Gatens loss will hurt quite a bit. The other potential issue I see is that there will be a surplus of talent in the post, but perhaps not on the perimeter. We all know how important guards are in college ball. I think better but only marginally so.

Idiot is over the top. OP asks a fair question, Gatens is a big loss. We add quickness, depth and size so I feel confident the team will be better. Still not a sum question.

i think mike will be better than matt when its all said and done and matt is one of my favorite hawks of all time but ive watched mike and this kid is damn good!

yes I know Gatens is hot right now but we have seen other players get hot McCabe, White, Oglesby, and Marble all have had stretches. Next year these freshman will give Iowa some talented depth along with a talented 7 footer starting underneath.

Gates is awesome, but he's only one player, and he is not by far our best defender.

White, McCabe, Marble, Mel and maybe Oglesby will all be better. We will have two stud recruits who will come in and give us meaningful minutes though I don't think they'll be stars. I think we can make up for Gatens.
