Are we going to be better next year?

This year's sophomores + white are going to have to become consistent and reliable night in and night out next year. That's the biggest key in my opinion because the freshmen are collectively going to log a lot of minutes and the only thing consistent about freshmen is inconsistency.

The bigger question in my mind is who becomes the floor leader? Matt's graduation leaves a massive leadership void.

wassabbe didn't you say that White has hit his ceiling in terms of development? If so, I will go on record as to saying your BB evaluation skills are sh!t.

Either way many tried to say this years team wasn't going to be better because we lost our leader last year in Cole. Well we are a better team even though Cartwright and Basabe have both taken a step back this year. We are better because we have a more complete team. The same will hold true next year, as we replace Gatens with experienced players in Marble, White, Ogelsby, Basabe, and McCabe....plus we add 5 quality scholarship players.

Will Iowa be better than the team that played the last two games? Maybe not, but assuming they can start out the season playing with the sort of intensity on D that they have had the last two than it should be fairly easy to improve upon the record.

The underclassmen will improve and the 5 freshman will fill areas of need where this team really lacks.

Its not like Gatens has played anywhere close to this level for the majority of the year. If he and Basabe had played like they have the last two games Iowa would be in the dance.

He's been consistently our best all around player all year. Smartest player and leader

We are absolutely going to miss his leadership. I think this is a much bigger loss than his offense or defense. It will be interesting to see who steps up as a leader next year.

I think there will be surplus talent on the perimeter as well: marble, Gessel, Clemmons, Ingram, May. Young, but talented.

Come on dude, outside of Marble nobody on that list has proven anything yet. The perimeter is a huge question mark at best.

We should all know by now that Fran is to contribute to most of these wins...not just great play.....most ppl (including myself) didn't see more than 2 wins after the non conference play was done.

I think the light is going on for Marble. You can see he's starting to get it. His intensity has been good, his focus has been good, and for a laid back kid he seems to want to compete. I think he'll step it up next year.

Five good players> gatens. Plus you're a ******* idiot.[/QUOTE

Idiot is over the top. OP asks a fair question, Gatens is a big loss. We add quickness, depth and size so I feel confident the team will be better. Still not a sum question.

This exactly. It is a very fair question. WIthout him, we don't win this game.

The answer is Yes, because the team truly will be better but we also lose Bryce. Is Marble going to be the starting PG? I know people might say there's no chance, but I think there is a chance. I think this forum question about Gatens is very interesting, but the answer is Yes.

To speak about the incoming frosh for next year, I will say that I'm as excited about the three lower ranked recruits as I am about Woodbury and Gessel. From what I have seen, Clemmons is really athletic and fast, faster than any guard we've had in a while. He sort of reminds me of a more athletic (better) Mike Henderson. Really good guard defender, rush hour handle and really fast/quick.

Throw in the other 4 freshman next year, who you could argue are all going to be better than Clemmons...and Yes I think we will be better.

White has the makings of a leader, May if healthy will be a senior leader, and may step up like Cole did and many hoped that either Brommer or Archie would do for their senior leadership, i feel that McCabe has taken a step back these las couple of game with the fouls he commits.
Marble will be the steady hand for either Gesell or Clemmons, as we have seen what he can do with the ball in his hand, Oglesby should improve with some more muscle, and Marble needs this as well, as a starter White is avg 14 ppg and 11rpg, that's up from 10 ppg and 7 rpg as a reserve, i can't wait to see him start from day one next year.
White might just take over the scoring leader role next season, he can shoot the 3 can play on the outside and inside, if White improves half as much as Marble did from last year to this, look out
White's stats tonight 12 pts, 6 rbs, 2 asst, 1 blk and 0 to's
Marble stats tonight 11 pts, 3 rbs, 8 asst, 2 stls and the bad 3 to's
Matt's leadership will leave a gaping hole, but i hope the 3 jr's can make up for some of it, and its not like Matt has avg 30+ pts a game he still is avg'ing 15 pts a game and 3.9 rpg, 1.9 apg,and 1.6 spg, not exactly insurmountable #'s, the leadership will be huge no doubt about that, but i believe Marble will step forward in that department and the scoring will be made up by committee
