The way I understood it, Jon and Rob tried to put their financial resources together to buy and “reclaim” the site. The current owners wanted waaay more than what it is worth, so it was a no go.

I think it'd be awesome if Jon and Rob could own it someday. They have the right perspective these days. Keep it fun and civil, don't take themselves or the subject matter too seriously, avoid the nonsense.

People may not have liked George's poor during game coaching, but DAMN could that guy recruit. Mr. Davis should have hired him just to be a recruiting assistant. He had done that then Fran would have had to coach at Iowa several more years to surpass Mr. Davis as the all-time leader in wins for the Iowa basketball program. Mr. Davis was pretty good in recruiting but George did a great job in that aspect.

I remember George sweated profusely during the games at Carver and could be seen carrying a towel on a regular basis. Now that Caitlin has come out and commented about the lack of air-conditioning in Calver I have more compassion for George.

Raveling wasn't taking any assistant coaching gig though. Guy had already made a name for himself at Washington State, was in early at Nike, was one of the '84 Olympic coaches that won gold, and left Iowa for USC.

I know he would never do that. Even though he went to USC he didn’t really do much there after he left Iowa.

Tom did great with George’s recruits his first year at Iowa and he did a good job moving forward after that. Looking back now we can see that he was the last coach to get us to an elite eight and a sweet sixteen.

Before him we go back to Lute who got us to a final four. It’s crazy to think it’s been forty-five years since our last final four. Maybe basketball isn’t Iowa’s thing.

In the NFL it’s not like DA BEARS are beating the door down themselves. For them it’s been forty years since they won a Super Bowl.

I feel fortunate to have had the privilege to watch as an adult male both events; the Hawkeye final four, and the Bear’s Super Bowl Championship. It may never happen again.
