JVB is going to look all-world one week and JV the next. He's never going to be a great Iowa QB. He's has physical talent but he isn't consistent.

Now this is just outrageous, and I hope you're being sarcastic. He's two games into being "the man". Stanzi didn't look any too consistent when he first started playing QB for us. Hell, he wasn't even consistent in 2009, his second year as the starter. And he turned out just fine for us, and he's in the NFL now.

It's one thing to say that he doesn't have the talent after a couple games. I don't think Coker will ever be Shonn Greene because he just doesn't appear to have the necessary skill set.

But saying Vandy won't be great because he hasn't shown CONSISTENCY in two games is ridiculous. That's hardly a credible sample.

I don't think the DL can get exponentially better. I do think they can do things to increase pressure on QB and Bernstine and Lowery will be needed.

On offense, they still have the capability of getting a lot better

Huh? When has the offense ever carried the day for us? The whole freaking system is predicated on 0 turnovers, the other team having 3+, flawless special teams play, the other team being awful on special teams and our defense playing lights out. We were what, 7th in the nation in points against defensively last year and something like 90th offensively.

I guess we can aspire to be 89th offensively this year. Expecting a KOK offense to be anything but vanilla and predictable is really a stretch IMO.

I'm surprised with such concern all of a sudden.

Didnt Iowa lose all their road games last year (minus the Indiana receiver dropping the game winner). Don't get how losing to ISU this year is any different.

2002, 2005 and 2010 before the injuries to Robinson, Gettis, and MacMillan, were all pretty high-scoring offenses.

The offense is the strength of this year's team, and it can improve quite a bit, as there are several key parts that are just being broken in (Vandy, Davis, Coker, Martin-Manley).

You may or may not recall how "well" we handled those losses. This is nothing new on this site.

So I guess we're just supposed to bend over and enjoy our new era of sub-mediocrity?

I didn't say that. I've been as p*ssed as anyone for the past two days. Just saying that we were just as p*ssed last year at all those road losses.

Well ISU is one of the worst BCS programs in the country. A lost to them rarely leads to a good season. Pretty simple really.

Think it would be nice to spell Coker with a quicker-type back. Coker can't have that many carries each week or he will most likely get banged up pretty good. I still think we have talent on the dline. This obviously won't be the defense of year's past but I don't see us giving up 40+ points again in a game. The success of the team will fall mostly on the shoulders of the offense ... We'll be alright ... Still think 8 wins is feasible.

Ill say one thing on the D line. In 07 that line was really struggling to get pressure, half way through the season the finally inserted freshman Clayborn and Ballard and we started getting some pressure.

My hope is that Davis and Cooper can make this happen again.

Thats the only way this defensive line will make any significant strides in pressuring the QB.

they are very fixable, just not with the attitude this staff takes. There will be no adaptation by the staff. Iowa plays one way and one way only as every team knows. Other teams have gameplans, Iowa's gameplan is exactly like any other year and any other game...same old, same old.

KF's new philosophy..."What me worry?"

Had this conversation with a co-worker. What do you think?

This thread is what it comes down to for me. I think our offense will be fine. JVB WILL be good for us. We have a good threesome started at receiver, our OLine will begin to work as a unit in a couple games becoming what they thought we would be (McM getting back will REALLY help, sooner the better. Defensively is where this thread hits home for me though. I think our Dbacks will be fine. Getting Bernstein into the action, Lowry back hopefully, and unfortunately not realying on Castillo as much will all help. BUT... can our DLine improve, develop into the players like Roth, Babs, Cole, AC, etc.? Can that be coached or is that inherent (spelling) with certain players with the size, speed, aggressiveness, etc. I do not have that answer. Yes, I think they can all improve with technique, footwork, etc, but will that allow a Lebron Daniel to be a Matt Roth? My main concern for the success of this team this year... thoughts?

I might be going out on a limb here. But I think It's too early to tell. Has anybody said that line yet? Yeah, I get where you're going with your comments. I think the whole team has several truckloads of fundamental issues to mill through, first and foremost.
