Anyone else hearing Brian Ferentz whispers?

Rumor going around is that with Paul Johnson retiring, Brian Ferentz is on the "medium list" at Georgia Tech. He's not on the short list, but there are rumors they might be interested in him.

Reports are that the #1 choice is Whisenhunt bince he is an alum. If they don't land him, a GT fan I work with says they want an OC who is under 40, so Elliott from Clemson is the second in line, but he said he has heard BF mentioned as well since he fits the bill of running a more traditional offense and is young.

With the talent down there (that school cranked out Calvin Johnson and Demariyus (sp) Thomas), I think he would probably be a pretty good fit there. Given how bad the ACC is outside of Clemson, he could probably be pretty successful, too. For as much crap as I have heaped on the guy, I actually do think he did a helluva job as "run game coordinator" back when he was o-line coach and have been impressed with the wrinkles he has added to the offense and I think it would be a setback for the program for him to leave, so I hope he is pretty damned far down the list because I shudder to think of how much worse it could be.

I don't think they'll get far enough down the list to get to him and these are like 90th person removed hearsay so I don't even know the veracity of them. That said, I really dislike the idea of him getting training at Iowa and then leaving for a job like that where he could be really successful. The offense is hobbled by some talent deficiencies and Kirk's overall framework, but working within those limitations, the guy hasn't been too bad.

Ugh, see I type that sentence above and then I remember stuff like the 66 yard game against Wisconsin last year and it makes me want to say "adios." I'm really torn.

Are you talking about GT Head Coach job or OC job?

could be a highly strategic move for Iowa. He could gain relationships with HS's in the SE / Atlanta and then come back to iowa and recruit GA. Of course by then I'll be 95 years old - too old for the internet.

Sounds like Brian's agent is the same as Kirk's agent. Spread those rumors!

Perfect. Brian coaches at GT for 3-5 years, does a reasonable job, then gets hired by Barta when Kirk retires in the same time span. Then people can't use the "he's never had any head coaching experience" card on him.

For Christ's sake....now we gotta put up with BF - rumor to get a raise - nonsense?
Him and his old man are gonna alternate turns bending Gutless Gary over, every couple of years. You watch and see.

That or BF doesn't want to deal with the Iowa offense next season, knowing Fant and Hock are both gone. Trying to stay ahead of the posse, so to speak.

What could possibly attract another school's AD or HC to BF, after all, who even pretends to know what his offensive identity is? Specifically, what can you attribute to BF, KOK, or KF? Can anyone say with certainty that they know where Iowa's game plan is coming from? What are the identifying features that distinguish BF from his dad or KOK?

I wholeheartedly support BF going elsewhere to establish his own identity because it's unknown now - he's so cloaked and protected in the Iowa program that no one really has a clue as to what he is about. Of course, that would be any other school's quandary to identify as well, they would really have to grill him hard to find out what is vision is and what he could be expected to bring to their program. You know, that might be something Hawkeye fans would like to know ourselves.

Anybody else feel like they are getting "punked"?
Look, it ain't by me. There's one GT fan in my office and the guy lives and breathes GT. He said he heard it, but that BF would be well down the list. If you're GT and looking for someone young, BF fits that bill and who knows what sort of favors are owed or exchanged within coaching/AD circles.

You milk the shit out of the Belichick relationship that is how you sell it.

Let's see...Brian's qualifications are...not even one of the better recruiters on Iowa's bottom half of the Big 10 recruiting class. Two years as OC of a bottom half of the Big 10 offense. Oh, and 2 years where his dad got him a gig as a placeholder in New England, where their tight ends have been top notch long before and long after Brian's arrival.

Tight ends coach at tight end U, and for that he is certainly qualified. I'd be happy for him to move on.
