Anybody miss this crap?

Does he complain about New Mexico turning into a football school now that they have hired Davie?

No, but at the 3:52 mark he mentions that they had to move a game because of football.

I'm impressed that you made it all the way to the 3:52 mark. You're either an Alford relative, have serious antipathy for Alford, or stuck under a large rock waiting for help.

Have you seen 127 hours? No it is just a really slow day. That and I never really liked Alford, nor his hair, so I like to see him squirm. Yes to this day it still puts a smile on me face.

He is a good coach. He won 2 Big Ten championships at Iowa. He was a hell of a lot better coach than Lick. He has won big at New Mexico State, including a conference championship. Is he a better coach than Fran? Time will tell.

Not sure what your problem is, other than he told Iowa to take a flying leap.

Here we go again, can't people just let a sleeping dog lie? Stop looking back on what we didn't have and look at what we have in coach Fran. This guy is putting the other two previous coaches to shame with the amout of work he is putting into this program. SA thought players would just fall out of the sky wanting to play for him and Lick..........well I can't say much there, did he even recruit?!

SA walked out on Iowa and it's fans before we could have the honor to fire his *** and he is better off in a small conference, one day Iowa will get their revenge!

I think it worked out great.
Iowa didn't have to worry about a buyout.
Steve is able to coach at a mid-major, where is more comfortable and has less competition.
Iowa gets to look elsewhere. First hire backfired, hopefully hire #2 works out.

I do miss games like this though, I will fully admit that.

Alford was not a BCS-level basketball coach when Iowa hired him; however, he was paid a million dollars a year at Iowa to learn how to become one. The last few years Alford was at Iowa, he was a good coach. Unfortunately, after sticking his neck out for PP and getting it chopped off, the fans were never going to get behind Alford, irrespective of how well the team played. It showed by the attendance numbers those last few years when Iowa was playing well and winning games. I don't think Alford's personality was a great fit for Iowa either.

Lick wasn't a very good recruiter and also wasn't a good personality fit for Iowa.

Fran seems ready to coach at the BCS-level. He has shown he can recruit (and I would expect his recruiting to improve as Iowa improves). Further, Fran really seems in tune with the fan base.

I hold no ill will toward Alford or Lick, they just weren't good fits for Iowa. Best of luck to them in their future endeavors unless it is against Iowa.

I really like the direction of the Iowa basketball program right now under Fran and am excited about the future.

Go Hawks!

Would you apologists quit hanging this on PP? alford was a d!ck from the time he stepped into Iowa. He refused to let his IU days be in the past and hired his dad to be head of basketball operations. His teams under-performed more than over-performed. He blamed the losses on his players and refused to admit that he was in over his head.

He finally realized in the end that you needed to get a great recruiter on your $taff if you expected to win. He took that recruiter with him and he continue$ the tradition. Early on alford was dealt a beautiful hand at NM. There was a kid there that was a McDonalds AA and Big12 freshman of the year (i think he FOTY). That kid didn't play in the year prior and is now in the NBA. He also hired a coach that was the AAU coach to Phillip McDonald. He made some smart moves but now we are seeing what he can do...nothing.
