Anybody feel like it's Officially Over for Iowa football?

We were a few plays shy of a pretty good win today. Hopefully we can put Nebby away on black Friday and end our regular season on somewhat of a high note.

The days of contending for B10 tiles - division or conference - are over.
We have been recruiting 2-3 star talent for years and it is now showing on the field. We simply don't have the talent to compete with any team in the league. Case in point - the best RB we can put on the field is a walk on from another program. Apparently he is better than anyone we recruited & on scholarship. What does that say about our prize recruits of the last 4 years?

It starts with talent. We have consistently had the 7th, 8th, 10th best recruiting class in the B10. And this is what that looks like 3 years later. It's not the environment, it's the coaching staff and the team culture that draws recruits. If you are a great receiver, why would you come to a team that thinks the forward pass is nothing but a problem waiting to happen. The game has passed this staff by & the level of talent won't improve until this staff is gone.

^^^This pretty much sums it up. ^^^

Still not sure how to feel about this game. Just a ******* bummer. You don’t come this close to a conference championship game but a couple times a decade.

Partly true, but take a look at our lineman. 4 4-stars on the o-line plus Hamilton was a 4-star, and 3 4-stars getting significant PT on the D-line (doesn’t include LTP or Ott). WR/TE are both great position groups, QB group is strongest in the division, RB is the major problem.

Maybe 'Over' was a little to... terminal.
I meant 'as long as things stay the same' I feel we will never be a 'relevant contender in the Big Ten' again.

That realization just totally sunk in for me today, just saying.

Now, a coaching change? Some unlikely team offense revelation?
Then YES, that will be cause for excitement. Always!

But now, with things as they are... no.

How much longer before Iowa is not respected and known as a winning tradition?
Weren't we once?

...Rudock finally played the way I hoped he would in the second half. The thing I feel that lost the game for us was how the game was called in the first half. If Davis had started with this we may have won. The defense played their heart out. We need to beat Nebby next week.
How was Iowa's offense called in the first half? A heavy dose of running plays and short passes to tight ends and KMM? Whose offense does that remind you of? Not Davis'. KF's. Seems to me Iowa's first half offense was heavily influenced by KF.

In the second there were a whole lot of multiple receiver sets and passes on first and second downs and consecutive passes. Whose offense does that sound like? Not KF's. Davis'. Wisconsin had to scrap their load the box to stop the run and short pass defense. I'm still not sure why some Iowa fans have this anti-Davis bias. Do these Iowa 'fans' want Iowa to win football games this season?

Anyway, Iowa showed Wisconsin doesn't have the stellar pass defense statisticians have been crowing about. Numerous times Wisconsin pass defenders were out of position. So like Iowa's defense in the past, if Wisky's pass rush can't intimidate the QB, the pass defense isn't all that good.

Iowa's chances against Nebraska boil down to Nebraska's pass defense. We know Nebby will be good against the run. As long as Davis is allowed to call his plays, how is Nebraska against the pass? Not too many B1G teams have good pass attacks to give precedence for this... I know Nebraska has been good against the pass in previous seasons. The Iowa receiver has to be comfortably open for Jake to consider throwing to.

Iowa's defense can continue to give it all they have. Problem is they don't really have a lot to give.

Yeah, we all cuss and get upset over losses,
but there has always been that 'next week' or 'next season' optimism/excitement.

But not now. It's weird.

Of course I'll still cheer, and hats off to a great 2nd half,
but it just seems to be REALITY now...
Iowa is not good, and won't be for some time.

Didn't we just play a real good team down to the wire. I am very proud of the guys. They played HARD. Sorry I just don't get that mind set

I want Ferentz to resign or retire. Sooner the better - next week would be good. I'm officially through with him. How many years have we been going through the same set of issues, criticisms. Breaking point reached. I'm done.
