Official Late Night Hoops thread

USC shot 10 of 15 from 3, outrebounded Iowa 37 to 20, and had more assist. Yet, won by 10. Iowa won the 2nd half 57 to 50. USC is mostly Seniors and Juniors.

Iowa just couldn't get the lead under 5pts. Great effort, but USC was on fire from 3pt range to ice the game.

All of USC’s top nine scorers played at a different school last season. Four of them are with their third different school.

USC’s average home attendance is 4,163.

USC's 3 pt shooting was unconscious in the first half. Iowa's guards are so small compared to SC's. Iowa can't keep the SC guards out of the lane.
Yeah they bullied Harding around quite a bit.. Can't blame em it's what teams with bigger guards should do. Hell I thought they got the better of Dix too most of the game. Iowa's defense kinda starts and stops with this. If you can't prevent the other teams guards from getting to their spots that just leads to them getting the open looks.

Between that and damn near getting doubled up on the glass I'm impressed Iowa even got back in it towards the end. They didn't quit I'll give em that. They just aren't capable of defending well enough against teams that can shoot. When both Sandforts are on the floor they can't guard/rebound for shit.

If Iowa wins more than 1 road win this season, it will be more than I expected. I just don't assume they will win any. I thought they played well and didn't give up last night. They are capable of getting stops, just not enough of them and can't keep up unless they are shooting lights out.

I don't give them much of a shot on Friday either...but I like that they will be out there for a few days before hand. UCLA is coming off some bad losses and are going to be looking to get right, so I don't expect much of struggle.

USC's calling card this year is drives into the lane. The last 6 min of the game, Iowa was totally incapable of keeping their guards from getting into the lane without fouling them. Probably 80% of USC's points down the stretch from the 6 min mark on, when the game was on the line, were from the FT line. Dumb fouls by Freeman & Thelwell 20 ft from the basket, which gave them 4 free points from the FT line during that stretch, didn't help.
I'm not sure Pryce Sandfort is a P4 player. For 2 years we've heard about how he's going to be better than his brother, blah blah blah. What I see game after game is a lot like last night: 23 min, 5 pts, horrible defense. Perhaps he would be able to shine at someplace like UNI or Drake, but I don't see it happening for him in the BTen.

Damn, Pryce imo is our best guy off the bench right now, can rebound and hit shots. He's shooting close to 50% from the field and over 40% from 3. He's a sophomore who's playing the most minutes of his life, I'm willing to give him a little time to develop before I want him to transfer to UNI. Plus, 9 pts a game from a player on your bench? You'll take that on any B1G team. I bet he's a pretty nice player his Jr. and Sr. seasons. Guys mature and develop at different rates, Pryce is money imo. I'd rather him in than anyone else off the bench that Iowa has and he often times is playing the bulk of his minutes down the stretch, so Fran trusts him more than the rest.

Now, did he play his best game his sophomore year on a road trip across the country? No, he didn't.

Yet another Grady rant, baiting up for responses.

We look totally out of sorts on O, which results in lots of points for USC. And, not closing out on threes while USC is out of sight on the long ball. So much for the zone. They are on the road to 100. Good grief. Owen is very good. Only Owen. Iowa flat out looks like a different team than we are used to. Comeback possible? Maybe. We do average in the 90’s…

They were playing really tight, dirty defense, took until the second half to break free

Once again the zebras were calling touch fouls on the Hawks and the F...ing trojans were literally
getting away with bloody murder

Owen had an outstanding job last night, they couldn't stop him

Perhaps his best game for the Hawks, at least one of them
