I called in just to say thanks to Kirk and the kids. I know they work hard because I saw the offseason practice on television and it looked like everyone was working hard. The coaches offices aren't even finished and they are gameplanning from some temp facility. Sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way but its important to stay confident and work hard.
I don't doubt that KF wants to win, and the same for the players. I'm sure they work hard.
Yeah, there are going to be close games and sometimes you don't win.. I get that. I'll bust out everyone's favorite quote: That's football. That's true for all sports. Thing is, wouldn't you want to put your team in the best position possible to be able to put some points on the board and build a lead so that you don't continually have to rely on having the ball "bounce your way" the last 2 minutes of every game? There's no rule that says you can't win by 10-20+ points.
Some people just don't get that. Oh, we just got unlucky, etc. etc. That's what we hear after every loss. If you're going to trust to luck all the time, then your luck is going to run out. Let's try putting our foot on our opponent's throat, put them away, and see what happens. Worth a try. Good teams make their own luck. If we have to trust to luck to beat teams like Ball State, ISU, etc. than this programs has bigger problems than a lack of good fortune.
Sure, the most experienced players are typically going to be less mistake prone, hence "safer".. But it gets to a point where I can live with the risk/reward of having some of the younger, more-talented guys on the field provided they aren't totally lost out there and a complete liability, especially when the guys you're playing are average players at best and not capable of making explosive plays that can tilt the game in your favor.
I'm probably forgetting some stuff from the ISU game, but I can only recall one big pass - a 30+ yard pass or so down field to one of our TE's.. In the 2nd quarter IIRC. Other than that, I can't think of much that went for over 10 yards. That isn't going to get it done. You've gotta get some playmakers out there and get some points on the board.
