any patrick ingram news?

I could see Meyer redshirting since there is such a logjam in the front court. If Fran can get away playing White extended minutes at small forward that will help, because then Basabe and McCabe could rotate easily at the four leaving more playing time at the five. But we'll see how that all plays out.

Otherwise I doubt Ingram and Clemmons will redshirt as Iowa needs depth at both those positions-- the small forward position is one Eric May tweaked back away from being pretty thin. I think redshirting in basketball is less advantageous than it is in football because of how quickly rosters can turnover (transfers, going pro early, etc.) The exception again being with big men, who historically tend to take longer to develop. Redshirting Olesani last year, for example, might have been a good idea.

good points Foval really well put and appreciate your insight.

good discussion all around.

As far as final four this season I think i might have as good a shot playing the lottery. The big dance I think we have a far outside chance to get in. I would give it about a 45% chance.

Most likely we will have to pay are dues in the NIT again, but could get home court advantage on that one. I think carver sold more tickets to their first round game then the NIT did for the finals.

You really shouldn't be making statements like this when you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

What?!? Of course he has an idea what he's talking about. He knows the personnel of the team! Just because Fran didn't tap him on the shoulder at Hy-Vee doesn't mean that he's not allowed to have an informed opinion....

ingram and meyer could very well get redshirted.

actually if you think about it there are 12 scholarship players who could very well get redshirted...because none of them have used their redshirt yet. i believe that ingram and meyer are the most likely two if anyone gets redshirted. most can understand i am making an educated guess. it is just like saying who you think will start the games...no one knows but we can make educated guesses. i have actually stated my "clues" as to why i feel the way i do...if im wrong so be it. wont be the 1st time ive been wrong and wont be the last.

if you read i had a key word of "could"...never did i say they will redshirt...if i were coaching the team, i would probably redshirt at least 1 of those 2 guys...again i prefaced that with "probably"...see how i leave myself wiggle room.

I think Fran wants to put pressure on the other teams defense and improve Iowas defense. All three of the incoming guards are more than adequate at putting pressure on the other team. Clemmons should have a greater shot by the time the season rolls around. Ingram hasn't been around, but he is a great at penetrating the other teams defense. A lot of the big ten teams aren't really that deep up front.

The only comparisons I can see between Ingram and May is their physical build, their games don't look at all similar.

I don't expect Ingram to be anything like Eric May on the basketball court. If he is Fran screwed up.

The height comparison is irrelevant. There are thousands of examples of players who are shorter than May and can get to the rim and finish much more easily.

May can't score, not because of height but because he cant dribble, anyone who can dribble then cannot be compared to May.

Let's not forget that Fran stated that Ingram was the best on-the-ball defender he saw all last year on the AAU scene. Granted...a lot of you don't think they play an ounce of defense in AAU games so it probably doesn't blow your doors off. Regardless, that's a pretty powerful statement from Caff figuring in how many talented players he had to have seen last year.

It reminds me of what my old college coach use to say. "If you're the best on the team at any one element...whether it be scoring, defending, passing, rebounding, ect....the court is going to find you." Ingram's defense is going to get him onto the court next season.

I had heard the same thing about what Fran said about Ingram being a defensive specialist and lock down defender. I've also heard Roy Marble senior rave about Clemmons offensive skill set. That's why I made the earlier comment about one being the more defensive player and the other being the more offensive player. I did take a little bit of liberty in assuming that Ingram would be a ball distributor as I have often seen this to be very common from players who have a tendency to be highly skilled defensively. They realize that maybe they are not as offensively gifted on the offensive side of things and so they focus more on getting the ball into the hands of those who have those skills. Time may prove me wrong but I hope not as I hope all of the players are good at distributing the ball to the open player.
