Any one else think the QB battle should be reopened after today?

It's hard to keep getting pass rush when the D was on the field for nearly 3 entire quarters of this football game. The secondary makes a lot of mistakes, and that is definitely #1 on the things I'd like to see fixed..

I do think we are leaving points off the scoreboard if we aren't going to utilize the biggest threats on our offense though, and that's play action with Smith and Powell going deep. Even with 1.2 yards per carry today their defense was still biting on play action.

Yes, to all three. Iowa will never be a good enough team for them not to have a qb who is a play maker.

There was a lot of pressure in the back field all 2nd half, but the first half he missed two deep balls pretty bad, and did have a pretty awful pick. Seriously...you have to have more than that going on inside your head. You realize he completed 13 straight at one point and led us to the lead. A fake punt turned the momentum and the play selection after the Morris interception simply cost us the game. I'm not sure what happened on 1st down, but there was pressure and no one on the right side of the field...someone missed an assigment. 2 down, GD decides to run...which had gone no where all day...complete waste of a play. And we fail on 3rd down...and miss the field goal...pretty much game over.

Jake Rudock made a couple bad throws...fine...but he didn't look rattled...and we should have learned from the first half...we had to thrown on every down if we were going to be successful...and force them to change their defense. I think we should have taken more chances on early downs...even with the bad field position...we had to do something to get out of our end. We could still run out of the gun , but we put him under center a bunch in the second half and it was a waste of effort.

The offense was to blame today...no doubt...but I'd be looking at our game plan after one quarter and say, time to change things up...we are throwing the rest of the game and forcing them to stop it.
 
It needs to opened up...if this team was a legitimate 8-4 or better club, then obviously no.

This team will finish in the 6-6 area. Why not have a look at the other? From the very limited footage I have seen, they look interchangeable. Could be that one is better on gameday... but how would anyone know, if they are put into a game?

You can hope to get some snaps for your back up QB without heaping all the blame for a loss on the starter. It's not like Rudock was the clear favorite for the past year. We were told all along that the QB race was too close to call until just before the season opened. If we get into a hopeless contest against Ohio St., what is the harm of getting Beathard some playing time? The way the O line played today, we may need him before the year is out.

You and everyone else should stop at the bolded. Because the coaches have months of exposures to our limited footage.
 
Beatherd threw one nice deep ball against Scrub U. Rudock's completion to Smith today was just as good IMO. Rudock missed Cotton by one step in the first half...a step, and that was into what wind their was, which was enough to affect a field goal.

People are just reaching for things here IMO, which is not uncommon after a disappointing loss. I can list six or seven other things that are far more pressing than this.

If one trusts kf to make the right call at qb, I agree with you. I got NO confidence in him anymore and hopefully most are starting to get the real view on him.

and a severely under thrown pick when Powell had 2 steps on him

and I agree there are at least 2 others I can think of that are big problems

6 or 7? If there are that many things with Iowa football that need fixing, then it's going to be a long fall.
 
Just like last year, we are going to need the QB to win games. MSU's Cook won this game with his arm strength, accuracy, and ability to continue to make plays under pressure and not just throw it away. IF Rudock continues to only get in one solid quarter a game, you got to let a reserve come in for a few series to see if he can get something going. We do it for the RBs, no reason we can't do it for the QBs.

Yes, to everything you said. And any other coach, in the situation kf is in, would consider playing another qb. Just realize that kf is a guy that will never do what a good head coach should.
