Any of you use or have used a long putter?

I have tried one. it was not comfortable for me. I currently use a short putter with a jumbo grip. Like it a lot.
I think it certainly gives an advantage with the nerves of some of these big events. I dont know how they could ban them though. To me its similar to an adjustable driver, being able to adjust your driver in round is an advantage too, so do they ban those?
I think the technology and equipment has gone unpoliced for so long the USGA cant really do anything about it. They do need to set some limits though with the drivers and balls at least.

its illegal to adjust your driver during a round.

Don't even bother replying if all you have are juvenile heh heh heh long putter jokes.
I'm interested in hearing from any poster who has used one of those long putters in a real round of golf. What do you like about it? Is it easy to get comfortable with it? TIA.

This is so bullcrap...

ive tried the belly putter. I hated it its hard to judge the speed when you are not used to it. But it is definantly and unfair advantage for those who use it.

LOL..you say you stunk with it and it was hard to judge the speed. But then you say its unfair for those who use it? If it gave you an unfair advantage, universally, everyone would use it.

I have a friend who uses one and its working for him, but my traditional putter is really working well for me. Putting is so much head game.

I wonder if that guy "Golfer" has ever used one. He's old, and I think the long putters started and are still popular with old geezers.

I'm only 45, and I use a standard length putter. All my other clubs are one inch longer. I think they'll eventually be made illegal, as they affect the swing path, and are hinged on the body.

I agree that it is a head game but is also a nerve game. The belly putter takes the nervousness out of it. Very difficult to push or pull a putt because it is anchored to the body

How much of an advantage is a belly putter? I don't think Keegan Bradley wins the PGA Championship or is much less on the PGA Tour without the use of a belly putter. Lots and lots of long hitters and great ball strikers that can't putt or have a bad case of the yips. See Robert Allenby. Also, I don't think Bill Haas wins the FedEx Cup last year and the $10M annuity that goes with it without using a belly putter. I don't think Webb Simpson finishes second in the FedEx Cup last year or wind the US Open this year without using a belly putter...

This is all pretty speculative.

By that, I could say I don't think (insert random name here) wins a major without the benefit of a 460cc driver.

Like I said, these putters have been used for years. But it's only become a "problem" when guys actually start winning with them. That says a little more about who is using the putters, rather than the putters themselves, IMO.

I've used a long putter just to try it once, my dad has messed with them off and on for years.

I don't think it gave me a distinct advantage. However, I didn't anchor it against my body. I do think that could provide an advantage and I'm all for the PGA reviewing that practice.

How is it unfair? If you don't want to use it then don't its your choice. Same thing with the wedge grooves. Who cares everybody used them.

Golf is about swinging a club away from your body. That club is hinged on your stomach and you use a different part of the body. Better drivers, wedges, they still have to be hit in the same manner by all golfers. These long putters do not.

Look at the people who are using them. The people who suck at putting. I think that's hilarious.

The head is the control center of the nerves. Again, to say it is an unfair advantage is total BS. Everyone would be using one if this were the case and very few are using it.

Steroids are the unfair advantage and they certainly have not been effectively banned in golf.

I think these long putters give players an advantage in making short putts but I don't think they have as much feel, which is why most of the PGA doesn't use them.

It's not like people using these long putters are winning a bunch of majors.

No, they wont all use it because some people can actually putt without them. It's the people that can't putt or are a head case on the greens that need them. That's their problem. Maybe the guys aren't as good at striking the ball should get to use something to square the club face on impact.

But everybody can use them some choose not to. Should the PGA limit specific drivers or irons because the technology in the club might give that player and unfair advantage?
