I don't get why everyone has Matthews so high on their list, is it because he has 4 stars on the recruiting sites? A goal of Frans should be to lock down the state borders so I have Jok & Morgan over Matthews. If Iowa is needing a 2 both can play that position.

Because he is the better player and as fans we want the better player wherever he's from.

What do you want people to say? Yes? Most people haven’t seen Matthews and Morgan play actual games, so the reason why they have Matthews higher is because the recruiting services and Fran McCaffery do. Seems like a no brainer to me.

I’ve never understood this mentality though. You take the best players available.

I was talking about us as fans. If Fran thinks Matthews is the better player then I am all for using the only scholarship on him. All to often we get star gazers on here that all they do is look at the recruiting services rank and automatically have that player on the top of their list ignoring the possibility that there might be a better player in our home state.

That's nonsensical. Why on earth should "locking down the state borders" matter?

Have you seen the talent come out of this state over the years? I am tired of Bo and Roy coming into our state and snagging the best talent. Hopefully Fran gets our local kids dreaming of some day playing in the black and gold.

The kid seems like a good player in many facets. Would love to have him but I feel like it would requiring missing on a couple other guys. And he may be gone at that point. Just not a priority with only one scholly.

Looking at this kid's videos, he's not going to be a make or break player for either school, but I would like Fred to snag him. We have 4 open spots next year (with Morris and Matt Thomas on board already). That leaves plenty of space to grab a solid player with some upside potential like Morgan.

If Iowa offers, clearly he'll be a Hawk, but with only 1 spot, that may not happen.

It's an incoherent argument. The only way Iowa will be able to consistently keep elite schools from poaching Iowa kids, is to be at a level near those programs.

No, but I would hate to see out of state programs landing Morgan if he is really that good. But he just committed to UNI, which to me is a safe place to stash him in case down the road Fran decides he is worthy of an Iowa offer.

I cannot argue with you there. Hopefully Fran changes this.
