Another jab at Fran

Don't care what Wilbon says. Screw him. I support Fran and any publicity at this point is good. If any kids watch that old windbag, which I doubt, all they will remember is Fran's name. Not what Wilbon's take was.

I wouldn't get your undies in a bundle over this. How often are Iowa sports discussed on the national sports shows like PTI? I say bad press is good press. Wilbon clearly has some beef with Fran but BFD. Fran's got enough of a reputation out in the bball community that none of this is gonna stick or be taken seriously.

If we can get into the tourney and make any kind of a run the spin will turn and Iowa can get some national exposure for this program for the first time in a long time.

Yep. College age young men like playing for a firey coach or one with passion. I agree. Not hurting a bit in this case. It's not like Fran is choking or punching players at practice. Players like know their coach has their back, and Fran does. I think Fran is more respected than some of you might realize, at least respected by many of his coaching peers. I don't see anything wrong with McCaffery's coaching style, as far as personality goes.

I'd like to think your right but I just have a tough time thinking that. If kids or their parents have never watched an Iowa game or know anything about them then hear Wilbons shots it'll leave a bad impression. I think that's human nature. Think about how your impressions of the old Rutgers coach may have been made. Now he turned out to be pretty bad and I'm afraid that's what Wilbon is trying to portray Fran as....

I think we have zero chance with any recruit that has never watched an Iowa game and knows nothing about our program. Wilbon is not going to impact recruiting whatsoever...as it relates to players we're actively pursuing IMO.

I didn't see PTI and don't know what Wilban said about Fran. Not sure what Fran did Sunday at Nebraska to set him off but he should read what the press has to say about Fran and the Iowa basketball program.

Quote from the article...."In fact, you can make the case — and I will — that Iowa fans care more about winning in basketball than they do football."

Wait. What? Weren't we told by a former Iowa BBall Coach that Iowa is a football school???

He is just a friend of Dakich. Bullies have a tendency to stick together when they can find some enjoyment off of someone else. ******** tend to stick together.

They said the exact same things about Forest Evashevski during his first few years at Iowa. Evy got after referees; screamed at players; and even refused to give Floyd of Rosedale to the Minnesota players because of questionable, biased officiating calls during the game.

Evy's point was that he had to make sure that people knew that Iowa was "in the Big Ten" and wasn't going away.

Fran is doing the same thing. I don't care what Wilbon thinks; the Iowa players seem to like Fran and are staying, not transferring (with the exception of Dickerson).

Wilbon is going for ratings. Fran wants to build a progam. I think he is doing it very well

This is my thought as well. If a coach is as bad of a person as Wilbon portrays him then you're going to see some blow back from at least a few players over the course of Fran's tenure at Iowa. Every player that has transferred has said they loved their experience at Iowa and just want to play. Every player has nothing but great things to say about him because they know he has their back no matter what. Fran's recent act really rubbed people in the news industry the wrong way (local media included) so someone who already doesn't like Iowa is going to be especially critical. It's also no secret that for some reason NW alum aren't the biggest fans of the Iowa program.

What? A true hawk legend complaining about officiating? Don't tell Dorkilohock his head might explode.

Evy was very tough on the officials; tough on players; tough on assistant coaches. But a GREAT coach who ran the most imaginative offense (at that time) in the country, according to Woody Hayes.

I love Fran's fire. All great coaches have it. Eff Wilbon....he doesn't know his rear end from a paper bag

Wilbon lost me for good when he was signing the praises of Louis Farakkhan, some 20 years ago.
Always funny when he tries to call out racism, since then.

Dakich and Wilbon are just the off shoot of our sick society. What is really to bad, to me, is that the University of Iowa or the Big Ten conference didn't stick up for one of their basketball players or coaches. Calling a college basketball player a coward and intentionally trying to hurt someone is plenty of reasons the University or the conference should of done something about these guys. Its all about $$$$, and there really isn't any integrity to it.

I'm pretty sure Wilbon is a Northwestern alum and for whatever reason there is a segment of those who absolutely hate anything Iowa. Probably because we beat the hell out of them in nearly every sport for years and years and years. That may be where the vitriol's coming from with him.

Meow.

Talking head, just like Dakich. after watching 1) about 5 eye pokes in the last two weeks that were more all blatant that ninja Adam 2) how many steals and take aways Woody had last week with his "low, active hands".....Dan looks like a damn fool that opened his mouth just a little too wide. Wilbon's been a loud mouth blowhard for ever, Tony could beat his a$$.

The section of the article in the Omaha paper that talked about Iowa's BB coach history and their combined achievements was really stunning, even to a ol' die hard Hawk fan like me who watched Ralph Miller's Six Pack go undefeated thru the BT and average about a million points a game. A couple of times, Ralph held the ball for the last shot when Iowa was down 1 point, and won both games. Wow. I remember when Lute came on board, and Mr. Davis was a first class coach and an even better man. How far we fell with Alford and Lickliter. I am pretty darn grateful to have Fran as our head coach!

The show is titled Pardon the Interruption. The whole premise of the show is to be outrageous and one up each other. It's 2 guys pontificating about things they know very little, or nothing, about. Some call it entertainment. I see it closer to fingernails on a chalkboard. I do find it ironic that he is calling Fran the bully, when his behavior is bully-like and cowardly, at the same time. Like most bullies, he'll soon find someone else to pick on, assuming Fran continues to ignore him.
