Teams cancelling home-and-home series so that they can have seven home games every year. If there were a 16/24 team playoff, there would be a much better non-conference slate. As is, early season football is boring, while early season basketball is the best part of the year. I love the tradition of college football's bowl setup, but the more I think about it, there are dozens of reasons to have a playoff and about three reasons why the bowls are good.

“The model that we would establish in the future would have seven home games every year,” McGarity [Georgia athletic director] said. “If you look at the models of other schools that have played for the (BCS) championship lately, there’s always one tough nonconference game.”

waaaayahh....whatever. it's a business. You either make the smartest financial decision or you take a high risk investment in a quality (on paper) game...daddy always said don't sell the car when all they want's a jumpstart

I agree with the OP's sentiment ... bring on a 8 team playoff and the non-conf schedules will improve
