Another early stat about our poor shooting team

The fact that we're playing poorly (your words, not mine [semantix r important amirite?]) is, in fact, a negative thing.

The thing that worries me is that the competition level is about to increase. All autumn long, we've been hearing about all of this great chemistry on the team, and guys competing in practice for their minutes, and then we get into competition, and it seems like half the guys have no idea what's going on, and the other half seem to sleepwalk through portions of the game.

This team's lack of focus is evident when they step to the free throw line.

I drove up from Missouri to watch them last night and glad I did. Yes, the first half was not good. No hustle and poor shooting. But the second half is what I like about the future of this program. This is a bunch of young guys as a whole. The future looks very good, at least for the next 2 or 3 years.

Here is one thing you may or may not know. The game ended at approximately 9:30 last night and the team left at 4:00 AM this morning for Cancun. No excuses, but I am sure they had that on their mind somewhat at the start.

As for Garner Webb they are a strange team to figure out. They lose at home to an average team and beat the snot out of DePaul in Chicago. Then DePaul turns around and kicks the crap out of Austin Peay. One thing for sure about Gardner Webb. They were all very athletic from the point guard position to every guy that played. The coach definitely recruits athletes and then they work on basketball. Maybe this is why they were only down 9 to N. Carolina with 4 minutes left before losing by 17.

Why do you say "we"? You have nothing to do with the Iowa BB or FB team for that matter. You are however, a self hating petty fan boy that gets off on trolling. 80 percent of your posts are horrible... some combination of stupid, idiotic, boring and unfunny. I will admit out of your thousands of posts (do you have a life) around 10 percent occasionally are insightful or funny.

I don't see this team lacking chemistry at all. I think they have loads of it at this early juncture. If they didn't, they lose last night

Now, not being a great shooting team? Likely, which was my primary concern for this year outside of having a true frosh point guard. It's why I was happy when Fran offered Jok and he accepted, because at worst he is another shooter that next year's team needs greatly.

It's tough to spin too many positives from last night from an x's and o's standpoint.

But we saw the kind of fire, passion and determination in the second half we used to see on a regular basis some 15 years ago

Zach McCabe is setting an amazing example and Adam Woodbury sort of seems like his protege in that regard.

Falling behind by 23 to a bad and short handed team is not good. Iowa is going to struggle against the zone this year

But coming back and winning that game goes into the bank for every one of those guys and they can draw on that account all year

As I read this, it struck me that if you made the same case for the problems we're facing on the football board, you'd be mercilessly ridiculed...

Sorry Grapie, but scoring 18 points in the first half against Gardner-Webb is not a sign of "a reasonably well-oiled machine". That is a sign of a team that was straight up not prepared to play that game, and needed their ***** kicked at halftime to make it happen.

Kind of reminds me of the Iowa-Purdue football game, but with a different result.

I can understand a team not being focused to play a basketball game against a weak opponent. That happens frequently in basketball.

Not comparable to football where there are only 12 games a year.

We may not be a great shooting team but a basketball team struggling to shoot at the beginning of the season is not exactly uncommon.
