Another Blow to Indiana - Gunner Kiel

That would be nice, but I doubt he would come to Iowa with Ruddock waiting for his chance. But, it would be awesome if he did

I don't think the nation's number one recruit is afraid of some 3 star QB in the class in front of him. He'll likely commit to a program with a bigger "threat" in front of him than Rudock.

Maybe...but the only reason Rudock was only a "3 star" ranked qb was because he was 170 lbs. He was one of the best qbs in every camp he attended and was far and away the best qb in the state of Florida. If he had the prototypical size in high school he could of arguably been the #1 qb in the country in that class.

So the #1 QB prospect is gonna be afraid of some 3 star 170 lb punk?

(I have confidence in Rudock. But a big name recruit is NOT going to let Rudock drive his choice. You don't think Bama, Texas, USC have bigger recruits than Rudock on the roster?)

I respectfully disagree. Rudock was listed somewhere in the 6-2, 185 range on most sites, which isn't bad size for a QB. There was a lot more than his size that held him back from being the #1 QB in last year's class. Also, he was at least the #4 QB, if not #5, in Florida last year. There's a reason a pair of true freshmen quarterbacks from the state of Florida are battling for PT for the Gators right now.

I agree with this. Fear of competition seems to rarely play into the mindset of recruits. John David Booty (the #1 QB in '04) skipped his senior year of high school to battle Matt Leinart and Matt Cassell (a pair of future NFL starters) for the starting job at USC. The next year, Mark Sanchez also went to USC and eventually sat behind Booty. Sam Bradford went to Oklahoma knowing that he was going to have to sit behind Rhett Bomar. The list could go on and on. I would bet someone else's house that competition will NOT the deciding factor for Kiel.

I never said Gunner shouldn't come to Iowa because Rudock would definitely beat him out. I was just giving Rudock a little more credit than you guys are. "170 lb. punk"...Really...You still going to be calling him a punk in 2 years when he's the qb for the Hawks?

Don't blame the kid but too bad they don't learn to hold off on making their decision until 100 percent committed. I know we are talking about 17/18 year olds but too much of this going on with players backing out of verbals, etc. Don't get me wrong ... I think this was a wise choice ... It would have been a long four seasons for him in Bloomington.

I think there is more to the story that meets the eye. Heard there was some kind of altercation between his brother and one of the coaches.

No, he was the QB on the best team in Florida. That is a big difference. Any QB throwing to Dorsett( who is at Miami) and Greene(FSU) will look good. Do you have any of these camp articles that rave about his talents, or are you spouting hyperbole as fact?

Gunner Kiel will likely look at a traditional power with a need. ND would be a great fit, and would help lure in the WR. Michigan and even OSU would also likely get a look. Iowa has not been a hot spot for top QBs in the past, and I don't see that changing.

This thread title should be called another blow to Indiana AND LSU b/c he decommitted today and looks like he will be wearing the lucky clover next fall!!!!!!! Love it. Go Irish
