Another back leaves team?????

I should be more familiar with our fullback depth, but I'm not. Does this leave Morse and Rogers?

** Sorry...I'll restate...

Shane DiBona started at the FB position IIRC. If he isn't considered in or close to the two deep at LB, maybe this is another possiblity?

Maybe Gimm? he is listed as a TE still, but I thought I read somewhere they were trying him at FB and he was loving it.

Riesen looked pretty salty in the spring game. I think that Rogers has a skill set that we haven't seen at Iowa in a few seasons at that position with the ability to carry the ball. He would be more of a legitimate running threat if he were the single back.

Hope it isn't true however.

Riesen wasn't even invited to camp this year so I'm not sure I can agree he looked "salty" in the spring game.

Maybe he's hurt or something.

^^^what rider said^^^^. Gimm has king of the 'pancake block' in HS. He will trouble seeing the field at TE with the numbers ahead of him. Good call rider, forgot about this kid.

My impression is that Rogers was likely a clear #2 FB. Furthermore, if they needed a #3, Gimm and Reisen could duke it out if neccessary.

I am surprised if it's true that Leppert left ... he seemed to be pretty solid and he played a good amount a few years ago. However, that said, guys often get displaced on the depth chart ... and that can lead to a reduction in playing time.

Just got the word from Wade's cousin (this is not bs, his cousin went to my high school and is one of my closest friends from back home). Apparently Wade has left the team but will still attend Iowa as a student. Rodgers had passed him on the depth chart, and Wade was told that he was probably going to be relegated to special teams for the rest of his career, so he decided to end it. Some people may criticize him for this, but he's been a Hawkeye fan his whole life and from what I understand he gave a lot to the team (he actually started some games in 08 when Morse was hurt).

Interestingly, he was never given a scholarship. How does someone who starts a few games NOT earn a scholarship?

Starting a couple games does not equal earning a scholarship. I'm not trying to dog the kid, but quite frankly, his play was not scholarship worthy IMO. When you play FB, you'd better not miss your block on 4th and 1 with the game on the line.

Many, many FB's don't get scholarships. Just one of those quirks in college football that happen. For a long time (and often still now), kickers were also never on scholarship. Many, many FB's end up earning schollies at some point, but a good number don't have them at the start of their careers. Good luck to Wade.
