Andrew Brommer: How is this even possible?

Stokes was pretty much a non factor in high school. When I saw that he was walking on at Iowa, I assumed it was an attempt to help lead his sister down the same path. I don't mind having him on the team, but it will be a pleasant surprise if he improves enough to make a large contribution to the team in the years to come.

Whos the other kid from Waterloo that walked on? I played 21 with him in the CF rec center and when he told me he was walking on to Iowa I thought he was pulling my leg. I never noticed him even on the bench until I went to the ia/isu game.

Can someone tell me what exactly happened on theat dunk play by Brommer that went off the top o=portion of the backboard. It happened so fast, I couldn't tell what happened and was completely astonished with where the ball ended up. Archie on the otherhand, had a beautiful stuff on a fast break. He was impressive in finishing that play.

I can't speak to the other 2 years but his early struggles this year are because of the arm sock he was wearing. Now that he has taken my advice and ditched it things will improve.;)

He wasn't asked to be much of a scorer and he didn't have to be. Most of LM's points came from it's perimeter players. 3 of their guards are going D1. His role was to defend and rebound.

That isn't news to me sirhouseman, and does not change what I posted.

BTW, here are his stats. Less than 3 rebounds per game? How is that possible?

5.6 PPG
53-104 FG-FGA (51%)
23-44 FT-FTA (52.3%)
68 REB (2.96 RPG)
24 BLK (1.04 BPG)
8 AST
19 TO
6 STL

Brommer's FT% is easy to explain...whether I'm right or not is another story...but here's my theory...in none of the 3 seasons that he's been a Hawkeye, has he had a large enough sampling to judge him by...the hole in my argument comes from him already being at his average FTs per season, meaning he's getting to the line more often, so he should be in a better groove than he is...then again, it seems as though most of the team is horrible from the line, so maybe he's feeling that pressure too, since no one else can make one...

A better question: How did Brommer not even hit the rim with that break away layup at Purdue the other day? Cartwright lead him to the basket perfectly and he caught the ball cleanly and when he tried to go up it's like he just couldn't jump off one foot and slammed the ball off the back board.

He looked like and uncoordinated 8th grader learning the game.

Probably in the same fashion he missed two bunnies in the second half against Iowa State, and then missed two bunnies and a dunk against Drake.

I get that the kid is busting his *** out there and that he's usually only in the game if Cole gets in foul trouble...but c'mon - there isn't anyone on the bench who can do what he does?

Along with those missed bunnies, AB had made some pretty sweet moves from the block this season. I am fine with his play, but would like to see a little better performance from the line.

That's fine, but for every one of these sweet moves he seems to turn it over or commit a foul.

Brommer has 11 TO in 15 games played. You must be seeing things if you think he is turning the ball over all the time. He has about the same TO/minute ratio as Cole. His fouling is also way down from last year. If you don't want Brommer in there, who do you think should be getting those minutes? While Archie did have a great transition dunk in the Purdue game, his numbers don't look as good as Brommers.

Oh...I thought the punchline to the question "how is this even possible?" was going to be "That Brommer is actually on a Division 1 college basketball team"

I caught a little bit of Fran's radio show the other day and he was talking about Brommer and Archie's playing time. Said Archie came and talked to him about his minutes early in the year which he appreciated. He told Archie that nothing was going to change unless he started showing him more in practice. Fran said after the discussion that Archie really turned it up in practices and that is why he is getting more playing time so I expect we will see more of him.

Back to the original subject, using binomial distribution (the only way I can think of to come up with a remotely appropriate probability of this happening) of him making 75% of his FT's in one year, after making 23% in his first two years is roughly .0000029%.

That is in fact gorilla math as I can't figure out how to account for the fact each time he makes a free throw on his way toward the 18 of 24 in year 3 the p(A) changes.
