Red Skelton was great. Guys like Lewis Black have stolen the routine of other comedians and road their coat tail to success. I'm not saying that's wrong. Lewis Black has a net worth of 1.5 million so he's been very successful. Nobody listening to a comedian takes what they say seriously if they even remember it 15 minutes later. Do you think people changed their votes because of Letterman's presidential jokes. Hawk90 will continue to live a miserable life because he thinks his views are the only ones that count. Since Red Skelton wasn't relevant during his time he dismisses him as nothing. I'm sure he thinks he's a genius but until he grows up and opens his mind he'll live a life where people will avoid him and mock him for what he is. There's always hope that he will mature and be alright.
I want KF out as ead coach but that doesn't mean everything he's done has been horrible. This is something Hawk90 hasn't figured out.[/QUOTE
I think Ferentz is a fine person, he has been great for the State and the university. However, his time has passed. I seem to have offended you old farts. I know you like the sixties flashbacks; the band playing Hey Jude, football like ole Woody and Bo played before the Big Ten discovered the forward pass and offense.....Red Skelton on the ole radio....you know the old days. And I actually live a pretty good life. You are right, Red Skelton is NOT relevant today.....and has not been for 50 years, therein lies my point. It is time to move on and get relevant and quit living in the past. If that's genius, then I am a genius. Most of us live in the present, looking forward to the future. Step up your game Doc!
Look at the demographics of the fans at Kinnick. Other than the few drunken students that actually show up, it is "old farts and old fartettes". Kinda like Iowa the state.

I got news for you. A large portion of season ticket holders, tailgaters and butts in the seats for ANY bigtime college football program are adults between 40-60.
Iowa is a joke. People just don't understand what Ferentz has done for a third world country. Iowa high school football is a disgrace. The worst talent base in the conference. Yet the people on this board think Iowa should compete with the elite programs. Iowa is a state with very old slow white people. With the demographics, Iowa should be the worst team in the B1G every year.
How the hell did Iowa ever finish in the top eight four times under Ferentz. The best thing that could happen to Iowa is to quadruple the population. So instead of bitchin' about Ferentz, knock up your wife or girlfriend tonight.
Using your logic if you have memories of your kids when they were little it means you're living in the past.Red Skelton was great. I guess you could define "large portion". I have only had season tickets since 2002, and only have been to a few other venues, but the demographics of the attendee's fit the state of Iowa's demographics pretty good. Are you suggesting that U of I "import more diversity?
Using your logic if you have memories of your kids when they were little it means you're living in the past.
Ah no not at all. If you continue to treat your kids in the present as if they were the same little kids from your memories then you are living in the past and have not changed with the times. If you continue to embrace offensive strategies that worked 20 years ago, but do not today...you are living in the past. Especially, when you show up at press conferences and spend most of it talking about the old days. If you want to improve the game day experience, but your only point of reference is from the 60's ending in the 80s' and the band and the music reflect that...you are living in the past. The students have no reason to come to games, the game is old and stale, the game day experience is old and stale. Red Skelton may have been great in his time, humor changes over time, I watched him only on Youtube...in black and white... His humor seems silly and very dated, but like I said all things change over time. I doubt if he showed up on the comedy circuit today he would get very far. Pointing out the difference in generations seems to have rankled you, I suggest you up your prescription.
I agree with you just as Lewis Black would not be accepted in the 50's. The point I'm making is you seem to think that the older fans want to keep Kirk Ferentz as coach. I can't recall anybody of any age saying they want KF to stay in over a year. If I'm wrong please point them out. If a new coach came in with new ideas I would be thrilled but I would also hope we could keep out tradition of putting lineman in the NFL. Just because there are old and new ways of doing things doesn't mean they are exclusive of each other. Continues success is when you take your old ways and add new ways and continue evolve them. When I was running my restaurants I was always looking to replace the bottom two people on my schedule. It's not like they were all bad or old it's just the evolution process I used to always upgrade. This is what KF has failed to do. It's one of the things that frustrate Iowa fans the most but you seem to think us old timers want things to stay the same.Ah no not at all. Fifty years from now Gary and Kirk talking about another extension to his contract. The calculator seems to be have a malfunction when hitting the total pay out.I googled up Red Skelton and there was nothing in there about Iowa. But I did find this. Which proves my point.
Hmmm....I think Gaffigan is about 10 times better than that raving yeller.I dig Lewis Black. Gaffigan is the f'n best though.
Whether it's Louis Black, Red Skelton or Redd Foxx.... point is, when the visiting comedians put you in the cross hairs and ESPN picks it up... you're pretty much toast.
Ferentz is becoming validation for every negative stereotype about IOWA (the state, not the University)... boring, overly conservative (not the political label) and slow to change and embrace new ideas.
Can we get rid of this guy already and his #1 enabler. He's becoming a punchline (literally in this case) and I don't like my alma mater attached to it.
