All White professional league in the works

Because the Rooney rule does not make a team hire or fire someone based on race. It says you have to interview someone.

If the Rooney rule said that you could only hire a black canidate, then I would have a problem. The Rooney rule does not exclude anyone based on race, while this Klan BB league does. The Rooney rule does not give anyone preferential treatment based on race, while the KBA does.

I'm going to get killed for this...because it's going to be viewed as me being racist. I don't agree with the bball league...I don't dislike anyone because of the color of their skin. As a matter of fact...I don't agree with discrimination based on skin color no matter what the circumstances or the color.

The Rooney rule does not give anyone preferential treatment based on race??? That is exactly what the rule was designed for...the perception was that there weren't enough minority coaches in the NFL (I agree there should be more) so a rule was implemented in order to give minority coaches a distinct advantage in the hiring process that stated a minority coach must be interviewed before any candidate is hired.

What about that rule does not give anyone preferential treatment based on race?

Furthermore, could I get a scholarship to go to Grambling? I'm getting in way over my head because I admittedly know nothing about Grambling...but my understanding is that it's an all-black school and I'm wondering if an all-white basketball league is all that different from an all-black university.

Sorry guys...now I'm done with this.

First of all let me preface this by saying I don't see color. People tell me I'm white so I believe them. I think this type of ball would return the crowds to HCA like in the old days. Nothing more exciting than time running out on the clock and we run " the picket fence " setting up a game winning two handed set shot. Hawks Win. Hawks Win. Hawks Win.

Let me help you out. Yes as a white male you would be able to get a scholarship to a school like Grambling. Grambling is a Historically Black College along with others, and all this means is historically only blacks/non whites attend. It does not mean that ONLY black people can attend. If you had the skills you could get an athletic scholarship. Historically Black College's were formed because black people had about zero chance of attending a WHITE university in the south.

So yes, you could earn a scholarship. Southern University has a 5% white enrolment and they are a historically black university.

This league could be more entertaining, if for instance you despise the style of play in the NBA, as I do. The NBA in my opinion has ruined the game of basketball for short, nonathletic, guys like myself.

No, this is not an Onion article:

Basketball league for white Americans targets Augusta 011910 - The Augusta Chronicle

The All-American Basketball Alliance announced in a news release Sunday evening that it intends to start its inaugural season in June and hopes Augusta will be one of 12 cities with a team.

"Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league," the statement said.

...

Don "Moose" Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league's roster restrictions is not racism.

"There's nothing hatred about what we're doing," he said. "I don't hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like."

Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of "street-ball" played by "people of color." He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas' indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans' dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run.

Amazing.

Do y'all realize you've spent 3+ pages today debating an MLK Day hoax, a sick and regrettable one picked up by a columnist for the Augusta Chronicle?

Wikipedia: "The All-American Basketball Alliance was formed in 1977, with the intention of competing with the established Continental Basketball Association as the premier basketball minor league in the United States. Eight teams competed in the only season of the AABA, which consisted of forty games and ran from 6 January 1978 until 2 February 1978."

It's unfortunate the OP posted this and the mod has allowed it to continue. This thread should be deleted.

However, there is nothing preventing them from playing in the NBA. If there were better white American players, they would be in the NBA. If there was any factor besides lack of talent keeping whites out of the NBA, this could make sense.

I can't imagine how this appeals to anyone besides guys who like medicore basketball and are afraid of the hip hop culture.

I will be the first to admit that this hip hoop culture that you speak of makes me gag and is one of the reasons I don't watch much NBA but I doubt I'd be real intrested in watching this madness either.

That said I'm not really sure what its going to hurt other than the fact that it gives alot of people that aren't white a reason to play the race card. I'm sure Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will have something to say about this real soon.

Why should it be deleted. It's fostered legitimate discussion regarding the Rooney Rule which is nice. It's also given us reason to post pictures of Kurt Rambus and John Stockton in hot pants, allowed us to discuss Teen Wolf and the Pheonix Suns Gorilla, and laugh a little.

Lighten up Francis?

I'm sorry. I didn't realize this thread was a legitimate discussion regarding the Rooney Rule.

I thought it said something about an all-white professional basketball league, spawned by a race-tinged release faxed or e-mailed to a sports writer in Augusta, Ga., just ahead of the national observance of Martin Luther King's birthday.

Guess I need to grab my reading glasses and my KKK hood.
