All White professional league in the works

However, there is nothing preventing them from playing in the NBA. If there were better white American players, they would be in the NBA. If there was any factor besides lack of talent keeping whites out of the NBA, this could make sense.

I can't imagine how this appeals to anyone besides guys who like medicore basketball and are afraid of the hip hop culture.

This could get ugly...but what the hell there's an icestorm outside and I'm bored.

What exactly is preventing minority coaches from getting hired in the NFL?

Not that you said you agree with the Rooney Rule...but this is no more ridiculous than that rule is in the NFL. I'm going to keep this sports related...but IMO neither an all-white basketball league nor the Rooney Rule in the NFL should exist but if you think one of them is alright...you'd have a difficult argument to make as to why the other isn't.

I'm white, and I think white basketball sucks...

Sorry it just does...

When the argument for all white basketball is the same argument that they use to try and sell the WNBA, you have a point.

I would like to ask this guy what it is about the "colored" athlete that makes it so he cannot play fundimental basketball. That would be a fun discussion.

how are you going to prove that you are 100% caucasian descent?

what about Asians? don't see many Asians in the NBA, other than a couple 7-footers

I think english-speaking Asians should be allowed in this league

Charles Barkley was on Dan Patrick this morning and called it the "Mickey Rooney rule." The Rooney Rule is bs, along with the Tuck Rule.

I don't know of a single person in the sports community including players, ownership, and media that doesn't think the "Rooney Rule" has been good for minorities, good for the teams, and good for the league. Not one. Some may debate whether or not it serves it's intended purpose in every case but it's been a tremendous sucess hands down.

Because the Rooney rule does not make a team hire or fire someone based on race. It says you have to interview someone.

If the Rooney rule said that you could only hire a black canidate, then I would have a problem. The Rooney rule does not exclude anyone based on race, while this Klan BB league does. The Rooney rule does not give anyone preferential treatment based on race, while the KBA does.

There is probably some contact information in that article; give it a shot.

The Rooney rule makes teams interview minority candidates who they may have no intention of hiring - they're just doing the interview because the league says they have to. Suppose Leslie Frazier interviewed for the Seattle job despite knowing that they all ready had their man in Pete Carroll? Frazier knew that his time was wasted and that he had no chance of getting the job, but hey Seattle interviewed a minority candidate so it's all good.

Even if it's a given that teams interview people they have no intention of hiring it's beneficial for a number of reasons.

1) The person getting interviewed gains experience.
2) The person getting interviewed gains exposure.
3) The person getting interviewed gets an opportunity.

There have been documented cases of teams hiring someone because they were unexpectedly blown away by the interview. There have also been cases of the interview going so well that they got glowing recommonedation and consideration for other jobs just because of the interview.

In the interests of this thread being amusing for making fun of white guys playing basketball, I will no longer be discussing the Rooney rule in this thread. That, and I don't care.

On a related note, do you think the John Stockton hot pants will make a return?

Maybe they will hire Lickliter to be one of the new coaches?

Fundamental bb for a white bb team....seems to fit don't you think?

Agreed. Jason Kapono had a good quote though when he was asked about being a late round draft pick..."If my last name was Kaponovich I would've been a first rounder."

If not for the Rooney Rule, the Steelers themselves wouldn't have their current coach, Mike Tomlin...he came in and absolutely destroyed it and leap frogged the other candidates. The rule has its place and serves a good purpose when not abused.
