all time leaders in B1G confernce wins

What was up with Lee Rose? Best coach many havent heard of.
Another thing I remember about Lee Rose is that his looks were similiar to Lute with the silver hair thing going. He also looked a little like Bill Clinton if my memory is really on. He ended going to South Florida if I'm not mistaken. He may have retired after that.

Like Bill Self and Iz?

I think it is easier to find examples of upward progression following the retirement/voluntary leaving of a successful coach. Some that come to mind: Chip Kelly following Belloti, or Brad Stevens following Lickliter.

I think it is much harder to find examples of coaches who were performing at their program's historical high-water mark (or near it), were FORCED out, and that firing was followed by an upward progression. I cannot really think of any examples.

Bowden had a Ferentz-esque level of mediocrity at Clemson, regularly between 7 and 9 wins, which was about where Clemson had always been save for their crazy lucky title year in the early '80's. Dabo has worked miracles.

But programs like Georgia and Tennessee have left a trail of fired coaches in their wake in search of the next Dabo, who never seems to come.

Does PSU or Wisky count?

Does PSU or Wisky count?

Not sure, how do you mean? Are you talking about O'Brien taking over for Paterno? For Wisky, I am guessing the last coach they fired was before Alvarez, and I cannot imagine that his tenure represents a progam high-water mark.

Yes on psu. After on Alverez.

This whole discussion using non-conference wins as part of the total is just plain silly.

Kirk Ferentz record in only Big Ten conference games is 91-72. How does that compare to other Big Ten coaches?

Yes on psu. After on Alverez.

The PSU situation is fairly unique in that Paterno was not forced out for performance reasons. O'Brien was successful (especially considering the sanctions he was operating under; 15-9 over 2 seasons), but certainly not to PSU's high-water mark.

Wisky has not fired or forced anyone out since before Alvarez. They have had turnouver and been remarkably consistent in the face of that, but Alvarez, Bielema, and Anderson all left on their terms.
