all time leaders in B1G confernce wins

I think that the most interesting stat is the fact that Hayden and Kirk combined have coached at Iowa for 40 consecutive seasons. Here are their COMBINED accomplishments:

1. Wins: 295
2. Bowl Wins: 14
3. Big Titles: 5
4. Big West Titles: 1
5. Rose Bowls: 4
6. Orange Bowls: 2
7. Average Wins per year: 7.37
8. Combined overall win percentage: >60%

That is a great run for Iowa.

To put this in perspective, Iowa State has enjoyed only 3 seasons in the past 40 during which they won more than Iowa's average number of wins per season......and two of those seasons were the past two years (Campbell had 8 wins in 2018 and 2017). McCarney also had a 9 win season in 2000, I believe.

And with by far the lowest win %. I love KF, but that needs to be pointed out. His legacy is sustained very goodness and longevity, with a few sprinkles of excellence in there.

This is pretty fair.

Winning % for those guys (removing games that ended in a tie)

Hayes .804
Bo .856
Stagg .608
Fry .611
KF .558

And a couple more.

Meyer .931 The guy is a total dirtbag but 54-4 in the B1G is ridiculous.
Alvarez .520 This surprised me a bit. I thought it would be higher.

This certainly explains why they relish beating Iowa so much. But then again, they play in the tough Big 12, so it's understandable that they haven't fared better over the years. Just to prove this, look at what happened when Nebraska came over to the Big Ten - I mean, they took over the Big Ten - oh wait . . . never mind.

I know his record was good, but HOLY SHIT!
If you list fifty conference games a minimum requirement then that record is safe for a long time.

We can always take solace in knowing we were one of the four, and the convincing way we did it.

Every time I see something like this, I am reminded of how stupid Michigan was for getting rid of Lloyd Carr .758 winning percentage, five Big 10 championships and a national title. And yes I realize that he officially retired, but he was forced out.

and they've been paying for it ever since. Like Nebraska, like Tenn.... like.... ya know, most places that fire or force out good coaches, which is why I've never understood Iowa fan's hurry to wish away our current situation. I get it tho - I get fatigue of always being good at something too.

Pelini is a perfect example of this too. They fired a guy who never won less than 9 games and made a bowl every year (some major bowls, too) because they thought they were hot shit.

Now they really are hot shit.

If I was Pelini I’d have made a thank you post on twitter every month for those three years when his Nebraska checks rolled in. Screen shot that bank account auto debit, then Riley’s current record at that point in time, then a selfie of myself smiling, hashtag #GBR.

F ‘em.

Immediately following a legend is never easy. There are too many examples to list in football and men's basketball.

I work in safety for a trucking company. Every day a driver has 11 hours to drive. Let's say there is a driver who routinely drives 11.5 hours instead. He does it 5 times a week. He is cheating on his logs and while a half hour doesn't seem so bad, it's actually terrible in the eyes of DOT. Now, he's a cheater, it's bad, he needs to stop. My job as director is to make sure he does and if he doesn't, I need to make sure he's fired and that other trucking companies out there in the world know about him. If I chose to ignore that for 30 years because man, I really like the guy and if we lose him, it will hurt us because we need drivers. We're short 10 drivers every day. This guy actually makes us a TON of money, without him, it hurts our bottom line BIG time.

DOT would consider me the real cheater and in fact, I would imagine that my fine and punishment would be much higher than that the driver who was violating every day by driving 11.5 hours instead of 11 hours.

If you refuse to turn in a guy who rapes kids because you think it might put a spoke in the wheel of your college football program, that is cheating. Joe was a cheater - plain and simple. Which is why I said, he cheated.

I see. I thought you were saying he was a cheater and it was unrelated to the scandal.

Like Bill Self and Iz?
I've told the story before about how I jumped for joy when Jud Heathcote retired, not knowing that his replacement would last even longer and be even more successful. So yes, there are examples to the contrary too. But there are still plenty of Gene Bartows, Bill Guthridges, Joey Meyers, Earle Bruce's, and Jim Gibbs.

Yes there are but I wouldnt put Bruce in that category except for his reprehensible actions..

Purdue had 3 in a row of good coaches Even Wisky for a couple.

Earle did have some reprehensible actions but I think reprehensible actions are easily overlooked at a place like tOSU if the coach is winning big and beating Michigan.

Without looking it up I will wager Michigan owned tOSU for most of the eighties and nineties.

What was up with Lee Rose? Best coach many havent heard of.

He did what Gene Keady and Matt Painter couldn't. He got Purdue to a final four (and to an NIT championship where he lost to Knight and Indiana by one point when Jerry Sichting's potential game winner rolled off). He did all this with he inconsistent Joe Barry Carroll (who Krafciscin owned) at center. JBC predictably matched his inconsistency in college by being inconsistent in the NBA.
