Co-FOY award with Burke/Zeller; White finishes third in voting.

The hope is that White doesn't have a follow-up performance like a lot of the former all-freshman team players Iowa has had in recent memory.

Sobelewski on the all-freshmen team would be a joke. That guy is a no talent *** clown. The only thing he is good at is flopping 15 times a game, and then making his free throws. He is a little *****, and he is the one player I would say I hope gets a high ankle sprain.

Iowa would be an NIT lock if they had a PG that played like him.

I'm trying to think of the All-Freshman team in recent memory...

Basabe, May, Gatens...

One turned out to be a terrific player, one has shown flashes but inconsistent, one has been hampered w/ injuries and inconsistent play.

Stanzi. Be nice. However, I gotta agree with the flopping comment. Did anybody notice during the game when White literally touched the kid and he flew 3 ft onto his back? It had to be the worst flop job I've ever witnessed. The look on White's face was priceless.

Agree. Sobolewski is a nice player and made better decisions than our guards with the ball. Sad to say we were probably Cully Payne away from being an NIT lock, as we had no backup plan for Cartwright getting hurt.

How about that none turned up on an all-conference 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team until Gatens will as a senior. Kind of expect more from your all-freshmen players.

All freshman teams are often about opportunity as much as talent. May and Basabe made it, in large part, because they played more minutes than most freshman. Not necessarily because there skills were so much better. There are plenty of talented freshman on the top teams that don't play many minutes, but will be solid players as they mature.

This. With the exception of Burke, there is not a single guy on this list that I would want ahead of a player like Sam Thompson for OSU. Being on a loaded team kept him from seeing the time needed to have a large impact, but he will in the future.

You wouldn't want Zeller?

I like Sam Thompson but I would take all these frosh ahead of him. He cannot shoot outside 5 foot. Sure,he has a 44inch vertical, but that does not help outside of five foot.

Sobolewski is a solid pg. In fact, I can only hope that Gesell is as steady and good.
Sobo shooting nearly 40% from the arc, plus controlling the ball is valuable.

Agreed - he was ******* me off bad on Saturday. He's the biggest flop artist thug in the BT. All elbows, cheap shots, flops and FTs.

That's fine. I was just trying to list those that were on the team and what they did after.

So what's to say White is any different? What if Brommer and Archie were not the only experienced big men? What if the rest of the team wasn't basically marginally recruited sophomores? This isn't to bash these guys, just to say they aren't blue chipper types.

Of course, I don't believe this will be the case with White. But, I can't wait until the day when a freshman is so good, you just can't keep him off the floor, instead of you just need him to play because the players in front of him are just not competitive - or gone.

Think about next year. Most people have MG and Woody starting. What if the starting five were Juniors Marble, Mel, and McCabe, and White and Ogs as sophomores, or May as a senior (if his back gets straight), with Ogs spelling him?

Do we really think a freshman MG is going to be better than a third year player like DM at the point? Is a freshman Woody going to be more effective than a third year player like McCabe? Are Clemons and Ingram first year starting guards on an NCAA Tournament worthy team?

If May is a starter next year I quit.

All-frosh teams do not project ultimate success for these rookies, they simply look at current year performance.

4 years ago, William Buford edged out Matt Gatens for FOY. Buford has gone on to a great career, finishing 3rd all time on the OSU scoring lists. Yet, as anyone that saw The Journey last nite could tell, it was a somewhat bittersweet experience for Buford, who, despite all the team success, was the target of many OSU fans for underachieving. So it is all relative. Fans are basically never satisfied.
If Aaron White has Buford's career, there will be some fans mad at his underachievement,I am sure.

No doubt that the fact that Iowa has had 5 all frosh players in the last 56 years with Tyler Smith,Matt Gatens,Eric May,Basabe, and White is a mixed blessing.
Since the Horner/Bru class left,Iowa has been playing catchup.

All the transfers have hurt, along with bad evaluations by Lick.
I am encouraged by the fact that every recruit that Fran has brought in so far, outside of Gabe, who is still unknown, has produced.
If all 5 guys coming in next year ultimately are productive, the depth issues should recede.

I don't think our freshman have been better than any other freshman in the league. Our lack of depth over the last four years has made our freshman play a more prominent role.
