All Big-Ten Defense

Is it safe to assume 13 of the 14 B1G coaches would start Epenesa over Hesse?

Congrats to our guys. And the media is more accurate than coaches. 5 players from Michigan to 1 for the Hawks on 1st team. Wrong.

This is the 4th time since 2012 that Iowa has had the Big Ten DB POY

Micah Hyde - 2012

Desmond King - 2015

Josh Jackson - 2017

Amani Hooker - 2018

I am afraid one of these days somebody is going to recognize the guru that Phil Parker is and steal him away from Iowa.

He’s not exactly young. If he wanted to leave he would have by now.

Think of it this way: AJE was the starter at RDE for passing downs. Hesse was the starter for running downs.

Both decisions would be correct.

Yes, AJE May be a better run stopper in the next few years, but he wasn’t this year or last year.

Has a non-starter ever made 1st team before? In any conference let alone BIG...

Nick Bosa won DL of the year last year, and the Buckeyes had 4 DEs who split time pretty evenly (can't find exact snap counts). Bosa did start, however.

Especially for edge-rushers, which is so energy-consuming, less is more.

By the way, according to PFF, Nick Bosa had the best win-rate in the nation for a DL last year. #2 was Anthony Nelson:

It would be interesting to see these numbers for this year. AJE has to be near the top.

And to think AJ was only allowed part time duties. Absolutely amazing decision by the coaching staff.

They guy made 1st team all BIG and your bitching about the coaching. Thanks coach. I suppose you would only play with 22 of your best players and no one else.

Do you follow football or just check scores on your ESPN app?

AJ shines on pass rushing situations.

He's average to slightly above average in rushing situations.

Look at the guy's tackle stats. AJ is and needs to be used as a guy to scare the ever loving shit out of opposing quarterbacks and send them running for their lives. He's not there to stuff Taylor and Higdon. He's there to sack QBs in the shotgun, make them throw the ball into the stands, and bat down passes. Hesse and Epenesa are Phillips and flat screwdrivers. If you're lucky enough to have both in the drawer you use them for whatever application comes up.

That and give me a rested, fresh legged Epenesa any day on third down over someone who's played 8 or 10 downs in a row.

AJ will be absolutely fine in the NFL; he knows it and his dad knows it, and he'll get his full time job next year for his final season. Relax.
