Let's face facts, guys. Alford was the best coach we've had bince Lute. Davis was good, but not as good as Alford. Alford was king of the BTT and was coaching in an era of tremendous change that Davis was ill-suited for. Alford has been to 6 NCAA tourneys bince he left, Iowa has been to 3 if you include that horrible play in game debacle.
By what metric are you basing this on? Check the records. Davis had a better overall winning percentage, a better B1G winning percentage, and got Iowa to the dance more often. I've thought about this also. I think it all hinges on how much he likes or dislikes LA. There have been some bad articles written about him in Indiana but no matter what people still love him thereLet's say he continues his run in the tournament. Is there a point where he would almost have to return? What if he wins it? Can he leave?
Silly! Iowa played the very first college basketball game ever in 1896 and has never won a National Championship. Indiana won 2 before Knight, under McCracken. Then 3 under Knight. They damn near won another under Crean. Indiana is either the 4th or 5th best basketball all time program. I don't want to give them credit either, but it's not possible to argue with history.

You sound like a Nebraska fan. Indiana is not an elite program anymore and they haven't been one since the 90s. That is why they fired Crean. Princeton won 10 national championships in college football, but they aren't relevant anymore. Championships won by McCracken when the NIT was a bigger tourney than the NCAA don't matter either. 1940? 1953? Give me a break.
It is about where you are NOW.
