Alabama Center Grad Transfer

I didn't realize that schools and conferences could block grad transfers. Why does the NCAA exist?
Apparently the appeals process is pretty easy, you just have to show some academic reason the transfer university is a better fit (stronger program, professor doing research that interests you, etc). I’m not sure what allows them to block it though.

That caught my attention too. If correct, I would bet any attorney could easily challenge that. It's basically a "restrictive covenant" being applied to a non-reimbursed amateur position, and an increasing number of states are determining that those agreements are not legal or binding.

Once a student athlete graduates, his or her contractual relationship with that university technically should end. As long as your original university does not offer further advancement in your field of interest, you should be able to transfer to any school of your choosing.

I totally agree it’s a bitch move, but it would definitely suck to know that you’re going to be playing a team with your old center who knows the playbook up, down, and left to right. Think about James Daniels, who is intelligent as hell and had the entire offense in his head. Would we want to play Nebraska or Wisconsin if he had transferred there?

I see the motivation behind it, but the pessimist in me also knows that Saban is just trying to be a douche to the kid.

Wow, he memorized all 3 running plays? We wouldn't want him to give that away. I kid, I kid I know there really are 6 plays.
He got you there, Fry.

Schools can block where their grad transfers go. You haven't forgotten the difficulty that Uthoff had transferring to Iowa?

This happened with a Miami QB Evan Shirreffs earlier this year. He ended up transferring to UNC Charlotte.

Initially blocked by the Miami football program from transferring to ACC schools and any other opponent on Miami's 2018 and 2019 schedules, Shirreffs appealed the Miami policy through the school's appeals committee. The school partially ruled in favor of Shirreffs in February, saying he could play immediately at Duke, North Carolina or Virginia because they boast Top 25 MBA programs according to U.S. News and World Report.

Charlotte is not slated to play Miami in the future.

According to some random award in 2016, Iowa's offensive line is better than Alabamas. So we clearly dont need him.
Ha. Oh shush. Those prom king awards are all garbage anyway. We have 2 big time line spots we are replacing and if only we had a scholly available getting a kid like this would be perfect. But it sounds like we are currently one over even after McNight announced he was leaving. So it doesn't matter...

If you read the fine print in the Joe Moore award, it was weighted. If your WR weren't able to get separation, they gave the offensive line performance an additional 10% weighing. If your offensive coordinator liked to run into 8 and 9 man fronts, you received an additional 10% positive performance rating. If your offensive coordinator followed tendency in certain situations 85% of the time...you also got a 10% bump to performance. Hence, Iowa received a 30% bump to the offensive line performance in the 8 win and 5 loss 2016 season.
