Akrum Wadley's stats from last Saturday. Get him into the game for krist's sake. I mean C'mon. He should have about 15-20 carries a game. Yes, he fumbled, but really, what do you have to lose. He can be someone who can change field position a for a team's favor. I realize it was in garbage time, but he's showing to be the bright spot on the team.

9 carries.
68 yrds

7.6 average.

New young players fumble the ball. They get fancy and forget to hold on to it.

To Kirk that's too much of a risk. He wants the safe bet...Weisman.

Yes I understand we have many HN Fans on the site that love Weisman and I have nothing but respect for his accomplishments. However my take and always has been my take is that we've left points and yards on that field with Weisman as our featured back these last 3 season.

Weisman Career by the numbers- Attempts:533 Yards: 2332 Touchdowns: 30

Weisman gets it done against Non-Conference: FACT
Weisman has rushed for 990 yards and 13 Touchdowns against the Non-Conference. 42.5% of his career totals are right here against the Non-Conference opponents. (ISU x3, NIU x2, UNI x2, C. Michigan, W. Michigan, Ball State, Missiouri State and Pittsburgh)

Weisman gets it done against Non-Conference and MINNESOTA : FACT
990 YARDS IS NOW 1235 which makes up 56.8 of his career rushing yards against these 15 opponents. (Minnesota x3, ISU x3, NIU x2, UNI x2, C. Michigan, W. Michigan, Ball State, Missiouri State and Pittsburgh)

By the numbers:
17:
The number of games since Weisman last rushed for a 100 Yards.
3:
The total number of Big Ten games in which Weisman has rushed for 100 yards. (Minnesota x2 and the 2012 Michigan State double overtime victory)
0:
Number of times Weisman has rushed for 1,000 yards in a season.

As for Akrum Wadley I'm not sure he is ready just yet but it doesn't hurt to get him more touches and IMO should have gotten in Minnesota game much earlier than he did..

Weisman is a great Hawk. But he is a fb plain and simple.. Why KF fell in love with him at RB once we got a stable of RB to play the position Is a big ??????????????????????? Wadley and Parker should be splitting time at RB. I am ready to see Weisman use up his elegibility so that will happen.

He and Andrew Stone both had great games outside of the fumble. It is good to see that Iowa is building more depth at those positions.

In all fairness, Mark gets called on in short yardage situations. While the YPC may not be high because of that, the IMPACT is much greater.

I agree Wadley has the juice. Iowa needs the juice.

Once Wadley gets his ball security issues taken care of, he is going to be a great back. The only reason he is not on the field more is ball security. Plain and simple.

If it's 1st and goal from the 4, by all mean, pound MW. But if AW was in the game early, he probably would have found some of those big holes and run through them a lot more quickly. As much as I appreciate MW for what he does, we need someone with more natural ability to get more touches than him.

I agree. Iowa is not winning the field position game with Weisman between the 20's. Problem is that when he does come in on short yardage or goal line, the other team will know that. But, he still seems to find a way to get it done. I think Wadley could do well moving the chains & help give the D some rest. Also, he may bring a receiving component/threat. Weisman is kind of like a "type-cast" actor, in a way.

I agree 100%..

The holes were there in the 1st quarter and Weisman was not hitting them, thus leaving us in 3rd and long situations. Wadley would have hit those holes and moved the chains.

Absolutely agree 100%. The holes were there and many could have been big gainers. Pretty frustrating

This.

Always play from a position of fear..avoiding what "could" happen.

Play not to lose

For those of you that think Wadley is a great running back or even a very good one, what games are you actually watching? He falls down without getting touched and fumbles a lot. Like every other running back on this team, he looks ok and not much better than that.

Maybe stating the obvious, and I like MW when we are near the goal line and how hard he works, but watching Iowa running backs and then flipping to watch almost any other team in the conference, including crappy teams like Illinois, is kind of sad.

At one point MW had 11carries for 17yards and Wadley didn't get the call until I believe around 3 minutes left in 2nd quarter. Is this correct?

I read on some post-game analysis, I forget where, that MW was stopping a lot before contact. It's strange. He CAN be a powerful runner but he also is guilty of this. And after contact. Maybe he is banged up??

I always thought Coker was guilty of this as well at times. Kind of like they freeze. Not out of fear but maybe just not natural or instictive runners??

I don't remember him ever falling without getting touched. I thought he pretty much has always made the right decisions and got the most out of his carries. As far as fumbling goes, Coker fumbled twice in one quarter once and he rarely fumbled other that that. 2 fumbles is concerning and definitely something to keep an eye on but it's too early to call a trend. Even if he was that high of a risk, I would rather take my chances with a guy with his ability when your other guy is proving to be that ineffective.

what caught my eye is on the corner blitz and the corner took him out. MW slowed down and absorbed the blow. In the past he would have run him over.

Has there been too much attention on keeping him rested and healthy that it took the aggressiveness away?

I dont have that answer, just a thought
