AJ talks spring practice, QB camp, opens recruiting

Pretty clear what he thought of Iowa's efforts to develop his QB skills.

I don't think he ever had the skills to be a D-1 quarterback in the first place. He should have stayed on the defensive side of the ball where he could have amounted to something.

What?

Is there something I'm missing? He hardly even mentioned Iowa in that article. Unless you're looking way too much into his comments about being rusty going into the camp.

Good luck to AJ though, too bad it didn't work out for him at Iowa. I still think he'd be wise to switch to LB. Maybe he'll figure that out eventually, but it'll probably be too late by then.

Apparently you are missing A LOT.

"I had a great experience. I went down to work with the best quarterback gurus available and learned a lot. I had a lot of rust throwing the football when I first got there. But by the end of the week I was comfortable with my footwork and mechanics. They worked with me to keep my balance with my footwork and to keep my shoulders level which improved my accuracy tremendously. They also worked with my release point which helped with my ball flight and turning the ball over, and the height of my elbow to be more consistent with my accuracy."

"Through high school and thus far in my collegiate career, I have not dedicated a lot of time working with coaches on my fundamentals and mechanics playing the position. I have relied mostly on my athleticism so learning what I learned with Coach Weinke and his staff; I've decided I'm going to return in the summer to spend a month focused on reaching my potential."

That’s called a self-indictment........people see what they want to see. I actually like this from AJ. He is clearly placing it on himself. Very mature of him. It would be nice to find that more in the world.

Read that. And apparently you read wayyyy too much into things. How do you take that as him slighting Iowa, unless you're bitter for him leaving?

You are reading way too into those comments.

Who said he was trying to dog or slight Iowa? latrans said "Pretty clear what he thought of Iowa's efforts to develop his QB skills."

How anyone couldn't get that from this article is beyond me.

And Duff: "brad banks, Nathan Chandler, drew Tate, Ricky Stanzi, and JVB disagree"
Take off the kool-aid shades, dude. ;)

He didn't really mention Iowa specifically at all during that interview so I don't know how you can pull anything away from "what he thought of Iowa's efforts to develop his QB skills"..

AJ was placing blame on himself more than anything.

I would like to amend this post - I should have said that it is pretty clear what the author of the article thought of Iowa's efforts to develop his QB skills..... or at least that's the spin I think he was trying to put on it. It seemed to me that there was a lot of emphasis put on his improvment as a QB with some instruction on the fundamentals of footwork and throwing technique. The subtext to that is that he had not received that coaching at Iowa, he should have, and it has been to his detriment. You may get something else out of it - whatever.

Yes, this is also what I gathered from the article. I don't think Derby was in any way trying to take a jab at the Iowa staff at all. I think he was honestly just reacting to all coaching that he apparently hasn't been receiving during his "collegiate career" that he is now receiving.

I find it hard to believe that he hasn't made the effort until now to work with coaches on his development as a QB. In fact, I remember reading about how much work he was putting into his development as a QB. Maybe that was all just BS, but I highly doubt it.

Sounds like he hates Iowa and wants nothing more than to see them lose, and he wants to **** on KOK like RKelly does to teen age girls. That's what I got from article, I could be wrong.
