This is probably an over generalization and there are a lot of negatives to AAU basketball but I think it has helped prepare these kids for the next level and there are a lot of gym rats and always focused on getting better. But we probably need to credit Fran and his staff for recruiting guys that fit the gym rat description as well.

White got locked in the gym. I thought I read that Uthoff turned off all social media to be able to focus. I've even heard Dailey is always in the gym.

It's great. I'm so pumped for this coming season!!

What's the story on White getting locked in the gym? I don't think I've ever heard that one...

There is a lot wrong with AAU basketball, but one of positives is that it allows you to travel and compete. There are several guys who dominated at the high school level yet lack confidence. They get on the AAU circuit and they realize they can compete and play with high level guys.

Yeah... true story... was in the gym working out late and the janitor (or whoever) didn't know he was there... locked up and went home. White kept shooting around... when he was done he found a comfortable piece of floor and slept there all night.

Man that's a good story. Too bad it didn't get out more. I bet game announcers would have loved to tell that story.

Just think about how good we will be when Fran learns how to recruit, teach offense and defense, and the transition game. Then we gonna be good.

We very well could be seeing the beginning of "the new glory years" for Hawkeye B-ball!

I'm not sure why people want Wagner to switch to football. The bball team needs men with muscle(strength) and a good work ethic. Wagner doesn't have to be a superstar to fulfill his role. He is needed to MHBGA(Make Hawkeye Basketball Great again).

There's more than one reason. He's not a great basketball player. He's ok. He can have some moments but he'll be taking mins from players that can do more then him out there. That may be harsh but unless he's improved a ton that's true. The other side of it is what football team wouldn't want a 6'7 215 lb guy that can run like he can to play a hybrid WR type of role? Especially one that is as needy of WRs as Iowa is.. It would have been almost too perfect if he would have switched a year ago.. I'd say since he didn't do it before spring ball started it's probably too late for him now to maximize what he could have been. He'll be a what if story to me in that he could have had a future in football with hoops he probably isn't going to be good enough to cash checks over seas doing it...
