Adam Woodbury..... Iowa leading?

Don't normally come out with the "my sources" thing... but... my source has heard, from close range, that Adam really likes the Hawks, he used the phrase "verbal commitment"...

Can anyone on here corroborate this info?... has Adam given a verbal commitment? or maybe indicated that Iowa is leading for his services?

I'll hang up and listen.... go easy on me.

My sources tell me that we havent gotten any concrete info on recruits actually coming to Iowa in what seems like months

After reading that article in the ICPC where Fran asked Van Coleman not to share recruits names I think it can be assumed that they are working pretty hard to keep recruiting conversations out of the media. I know we all love hearing what the HS kids think about our team as soon as we find out Iowa has interest, but maybe this is a good thing. Iowa City is already a small enough fish bowl, no need to give these HS kids that experience earlier than necessary.

With that, sounds like Woodbury is legit, hope he comes to Iowa!

I disagree. Info on recruits has been much easier with this staff than the last.

Agreed - this staff is out there actively recruiting real basketball players! We've had more exciting recruiting news in a month of Fran's regime than we got in three years of Butler ball. Lick conducted the occasional personal interview and accepted players that were destined to be Hawks anyway.

It's been stated a number of times in articles about Woodbury that he grew up an Iowa fan, and that's a very good start. When he visited Iowa last Fall he was decked out in Iowa gear. I think we have a very, very good chance to land him but I don't think he's committed to us yet. I think he'll enjoy looking around and being courted some by some other majors programs this Summer, but I won't be surprised if he has committed to Iowa before his junior season starts. That's just pure guesswork on the timing, though.

Sounds like my guy might have heard one thing but is blinded by some wishful thinking, and maybe a bit of kool-aid drinking.... strong Iowa interest sounds nice though.

carry on...

You should help Rob Howe out then, he was on Matt & Miller yesterday saying how hard it has been to get info from this staff.

Maybe FM is telling recruits not to put stuff on facebook so that avenue of info has dried up for Rob. :D

It would be a great thing to get an early commitment from a kid that REALLY wanted to be a Hawk(like Horner,Gatens did) to open the flood gates for more quality guys, to see that we got something cooking!!! ............which I think we do.............. and it's very true coach Caff has had more interesting recruiting news already than Lick ever did!!! now we just gotta start signing them, the effort is an absolute turn around!!

Like Freddy says, he is reported to be a Hawkeye fan growing up but he is not going to commit right away. He will play AAU and go to few camps this summer. He may decide this Fall.

It will not be a big surprise if he commits to Iowa but wouldnt say he is currently committed.

My son goes to the same high school as him and it is no secret he is a Hawkeye fan as he is often seen wearing Hawkeye gear. His family are Hawkeye fans, so saying Iowa is the leader is no surprise.

Woodbury also recently stated that he's been invited to attend the Kansas elite camp this Summer along with Paige. Mike Gesell, their AAU teammate from South Sioux City, may also be going--that I'm not sure about. All three of them are down in that area this weekend playing in a tournament with their Martin Bros. team.

He doesn't have a Kansas offer yet but he is attracting significant interest from high major programs.

I'm taking the bait.....I would sure like Paige, and it sounds like Gesell is blowing up. Staten's transfer to the Crusaders is interesting and bodes well for us. But who knows, maybe we'll be more attractive than KS soon enough. We'll be recruiting the entire country like the J hawks from here on out.

Really? Haven't seen the fruits of that labor around here. So, you think that this...

"I think they're investigating a couple of other jucos who haven't signed, but they said don't talk about it until we're ready to bring them in," Coleman said of the Iowa coaches.

...is more of a one-off situation and in the future they wouldn't mind Van Coleman and Rob Howe letting everyone know who they are targeting? In state recruits are a little different with local news covering the player and most people assuming Iowa is going to recruit the top players in Iowa (H. Barnes excluded).

We aren't a site that is going to actively engaging with recruits, but we'll report what others are saying.

I think it's a one-off because of how much diff the JUCO recruiting game is (need we be reminded of Malcolm Armstead?) We are getting a lot of info on 2011 and 2012 guys, though.

Further to the points in your last paragraph, in the same interview Van provided the names of a couple of 2011 high school targets.

I also think one of the reasons for having more info out there is how active this staff has been in a short time, and that their activity has quickly resulted in Iowa's name popping up as an indication of mutual interest.
