Aaron White's Pro Potential?

It appears he is doing well for himself in Europe. White is a good player, he does a number of things well. But he's not really great at anything, if he shot the 3 ball better or if he was bigger for the post then MAYBE he'd get a shot at the NBA. Europe is perfect for him.

And people here say Cook is going to make it in the bigs.

Does not compute.

cook is more athletic, is bigger and IF he develops a jump shot, he'll play in the NBA with a chance to stick.

He needs to do more than develop a jump shot. He needs to be able to defend someone. Right now he can’t even defend collegiate players. A White was an elite collegiate defender.

Aaron White takes over the game. If you don't watch anything else, go to the 1:20 mark and hear something even the biggest Hawkeye fan never thought they'd hear.

i disagree. i think many iowa fans are discounting a) how much zone we played because our guards couldn't keep their man out of the lane, b) the fact that bigs playing zone are immediately out of position when a guard can dribble into the lane.

Cook and Garza both got many of their fouls helping due to the break down of our zone defense because we allowed dribble penetration.

Tyler Cook is a much better NBA prospect than Aaron White. He has a shot to be the workhorse down low...on the glass and keep others off the glass. He also will have an impact running the floor and playing through contact at the rim. Have you guys watched an NBA game lately? The physicality down low is absolutely crazy. You have to be able to take a hand-check, shove, push just to get to the rim. Cook can do all of that...and excel.

He developed a really nice game to the basket this year...where he was initiating the contact and playing through it. He was hammering people and creating space, then elevating...that was new to his game. That's only going to get better and NBA guys will be noticing. Sure, his defense needs to get alot better, but he's athletic and that can be developed. If he can hit from 15-18 feet consistently, he will play a long time in the NBA.

Another year in college though will help him and I hope he comes back.

In the Dominican Republic, an 18 year old baseball player knows he won't impress MLB scouts by taking walks, so he swings at crappy pitches and all, in an effort to show what he can do.

It's the same with a lot of these young guys playing basketball now. They think they won't get to the NBA by showing scouts they play defense so they intentionally conserve their energy for the offensive end. I don't know if Cook and Moss follow that line of thinking but it's possible.
