Aaron White = Poor Man's Larry Bird?

Apparently there's not much NBA knowledge on this board

Are you referring to the fact that you quoted Isaiah? If so, who cares? Were you trying to be ironic? If yes, you have a lot to learn about writing stuff on the internet...cuz that ish didn't translate.

It's not my fault there's a lack of basic NBA knowledge on the board, you learned something today. You're welcome.

Lol. Dude, I knew where the quote came from (kind of, I actually thought Isiah said it)...everyone saw the Bad Boys doc. The problem was that there was nothing in your post to indicate that you were being sarcastic or disagreed with it.

I know that's an incredible stretch, especially shooting the ball, but last night I saw AW show off some great passing skills and he was making his teammates better. He was a beast last night. That was a very different AW from last year. He's confident and he's not going to disappear. The pass to Olesani that he didn't see was perfect although a touch hard, but it should have been converted.

He shot the ball well...saw him hit a pull up off the dribble, a three, and just overall looked like a first team all big ten player. He's going to have the senior year like Gatens and May, not Zach's. You can tell.

He looks like he can do much more in the offense as far as creating things for himself and others...he needs the ball in his hands more. That's a serious weakness on this team right now. White is the only one who can get his own shot if necessary.

Apparently he believed the hype today. He attempted multiple dumb passes.

Just way off base... and not just in terms of quality but just the comparison in general.

Larry Bird = Dead eye shooter
Aaron White = Athletic 4 man good in transition and explosive hops

Wow this comparison reminds me of something I flushed earlier in the day...good lord.

Aaron White is an enigma...what player is going to show up each night...the good or the average?

When Iowa got Aaron White, I contacted some folks in my company about him...I was told you will love him...they have been right, but I want the aggressive player every night.

Geez, the original post says, "it's an incredible stretch", "especially in regard to shooting"...but the point is that he showed other parts to his game, namely passing and rebounding that reminded me of what Bird brought to his team to make everyone around him better.

Then we get all the posts about him not being anywhere near his shooting ability...did you read the OP?

No No < Aaron White doesn't have passing skills like Larry Bird have. Larry can see the floor better than AW. LB seems to know where everyone is on the court. He has better shooting skills than AW.
Overall LB is just better than AW. I doubt AW can play against EJ

since we are doing the 'white guy' comparison thing I will throw my comparison out there. He is Ryan Bowen, nothing more, nothing less. If drafted by the right team he can be the hustle, energy, rah, rah, practice guy and stretch that out into a 10-12 year career. it is all dependent on if he can make that first roster.

Wow, no kidding. OK, I will spell it out for them. Mike was referring to the controversy many (many) years ago about the Pistons and Larry Bird.

http://www.nytimes.com/1987/06/05/sports/thomas-explains-comments-on-bird.html

The controversy began when Dennis Rodman, a Piston rookie, said in the locker room that Bird was ''very overrated'' and that he had won three straight most valuable player awards only ''because he was white.'' Moments later, Thomas, told of Rodman's remarks, said he ''had to agree with'' him. ''Larry Bird is a very, very good basketball player,'' he said. ''But if he was black he'd be just another guy.''

All that proved is that Dennis Rodman was an idiot (and he still is) and that Isaiah Thomas actually WAS just another guy as far as brains are concerned.

Not in the same stratosphere. He is a good solid BIG player and one of the best we have had at Iowa in some time(not saying a whole lot) If he was a great shooter, then possibly he is in this discussion. Larry Bird of the College player of the year and multiple NBA POY. White will be lucky to make an NBA squad. White reminds me more of McCale. All that said,I still have really enjoyed watching him this past 3 years.

There is really no such thing as a poor mans Larry Bird. Larry Bird was a basketball savant.

He just has a unique skill set. If he could shoot forty percent from arc he would be a heck of a player. But he is still really good and likely needs to get more minutes.

Dead eye shooter, top 5 passer ever, best instincts for the game ever, one of the best competitors ever.

Had Birds career not been slowed and then cut short by a bad back he would probably be remebered as the best player ever.

I don't think so.

There are some similarities but Bowen was an outstanding defender and very good rebounder. Ryan was a defensive specialist with excellent feet and latteral quickness for his size. Bowen was basically on a roster for his ability to defend the pick and roll. AW is just an average defender.

Ryan could also shoot the 3.

Its awsome to see AW expand his game this year, he looks really good, but he would absolutely have to develope a consitent long range shot to play in the nba.
