Aaron White - Please be true.

It wasn't that long ago and he is progressing just fine. What were you expecting him to do as a freshman?

I'm not putting anything he did down just saying he is not playing injured.

The injury happened as a sophomore in high school, he's now a sophomore in college.

Excellent interview, Aaron is very articulate and intelligent and appears to be dedicated to excelling next season.....

One thing he said about last season stood out. He said that being ranked in the top ten part of the season and the top 25 most of the season, including the last week of the season before the tournaments was somewhat daunting for the team. They were not exactly prepared for the national media attention. They had bulls eyes on their backs everywhere they played.....

Sounds like he is going to be ready. We will need him to succeed this season.....

If Woodbury shows what he did in the Tennessee game, it will help White and the others immensely. That is key. And if Oglesby, Gesell and Jok shoot 38-45% from 3-land, White/Woody/Gabe/Uthoff benefit. Circular effect, yes, but Woody can make the biggest difference with decent improvement.

That sounds like the formula to success, Hawkeyebob.....

White pretty much was saying what he should say. If he was saying much different he'd be on blast for it. I think White can continue to play his game and Iowa will be fine next year. I don't think he has to replace Marbles production so much. I think between the improvement of JU, JO, Gesell, Woody and GO alone that scoring gap can be cut into. Then you figure in the wild cards of Jok and Dickerson and I don't have much trepidation with replacing Marble. I don't have that much faith in that Whites game will improve that much. It hasn't over the previous couple. I don't want him to be out there forcing things for the sake of him having NBA aspirations at the expense of the team. He can play his game stick to his strengths and the team will be good.

Agreed. The consistency I'm seeing out of Woody and Gabe this summer, the aggression from Uthoff, the aggression you know you're going to get out of White: this play from the frontcourt is going to disrupt defensive spacing vs the Hawks and give our shooters better looks. This gives them confidence and makes it easier on the frontcourt. 2 veteran PGs and 1 talented newcomer will keep the transition pressure on. This is how I see our offense running this year.

Absolutely agree with this. I think the only difference of opinion I have is that Jok will not be a wild card. He'll be a contributor.

I want to see the Aaron White who in his freshman year at Wisconsin, had the ball in the paint under the Badger Basket, surrounded, and unable to pass the ball. Back to the basket, he turned around threw the ball off the backboard, grabbed it and slammed it....

Also the Aaron who in his Sophomore year, I believe, late in a close game at Minnesota intercepted a pass and slammed it, stopping a Gopher rally and shutting the crowd of fools down, tore their hearts out....

Agree to disagree on this I think AW has to be more of an offensive threat. The scouting report is out on him he can't hide from it. His defender is allowed to float with all Iowa shooters being catch and shoot guys it means they will always have a hand in their face. None of these guys can shoot over the top of people, definitely can' get their own shot. Iowa shooters need space to shoot.... you will already have Woodbury and Olesani defenders flashing at guys.....Somebody down low has to keep guys honest. It is gonna have to be AW.

First of all, Jok can get his own shot and TD will go by a lot of guys. Second, defenders of Woodbury and GO will not get to flash at guys nearly as much this year. I think you are really underestimating their improvement as upperclassmen. Third, JO and Gesell are now also upperclassmen and are not as likely to get rattled as shooters. Fourth, are you really going to bet against Whitey, of all guys, not to find a way to make it work on a team that Fran says is his?

Just taking more shots is not the answer, taking more shots with a higher probability of making them is the answer. The opponents need to respect that he can hurt them with the 15-18 foot jump shot. They haven't so far. I hope he can make them pay for that lack of respect this year.

The biggest impediment to Aaron White's leadership role may be Jok taking too much initiative on offense. Jok plays great and with a ton of confidence, but this isn't his team to take over.

I really don't care who steps up. If Denning were to step up and take control of the team, I wouldn't mind. As long as there's a clear leader for everyone to look to, that's all that matters.

And I agree with you on that. My considering him a wild card is just me not knowing to what extent will he be. The guy could get 10 a game pretty easy. Or maybe not quite that. Or even more who knows but 10 is my over under for him.

I hope and think Woody & Gabe will improve this year to do just what you say. Keep the D honest. Woody could double his avg pretty easily. In fact if he's not scoring 8-10 I'll be surprised. And if Gabe does even close to that it would just about replace Marbles production within 6 or 7 pts not counting all the others.... And I'm of the mindset Uthoff will do way more then that on his own. I don't think White will improve his jump shot that much and over all game to what some fans think he will. Nor do I think he has to for Iowa to have a good year. He could up his scoring a couple pts maybe just based off of more touches if he gets them but I just don't want Iowa to try feeding him touches like Marble and I don't think they will.
