Aaron White in Elite Company

You guys are getting excited over nothing... With the first pick in the 2012 Nba draft the Cleveland Cavaliers select Aaron White C University of Iowa. Lucky for us we have Woody to replace him!

read my post again; I started the post with "IF", and it was in response to another posters remark about the season he will be a jr.
he did get the DBL DBL in 18 minutes of play off the bench

If the Hawkeyes win 12 National Championships in a row the Fran will go down as the best coach ever.

We were playing Chicago State for Christ's sake. I somehow kind of doubt that he'd have gone off like that against an Ohio State, or a UNC. Sure, IF he played at this level every night, he might not be here for his junior year. But why don't we wait and see how he does against MUCH stiffer competition than what he faced tonight before we ever even let that thought begin to cross our minds.

People keep comparing White to other Hawks. I will give you a comparison. Jake Kelly.

Jake had that ability to beat guys at his own position through creativity and fluidity. He also had long arms for his position.

While we saw flashes his first year, by the end if his second year, everything ran through him and Iowa was playing with good teams.

I see White as a point forward type along the same mold.

Think of the role Gordon Hayward played at Butler.

I'm pretty sure all those other guys needed more than 18 min to complile those numbers. You read that correctly, he had 19 pts and 10 boards in 18 min.

He was easily theft best player on the floor and it wasn't even close.

Wow, that is impressive. Talk about finding an underrated recruit. Good job Fran!

His 19 points in his debut is presumed to be the most scored by a freshman since 1944 and Ives.

Check me on this but I seem to remember Roy Marble going off with 28 in his freshman debut, and roping that total the next night in tourney play.

I'm going on memory here but I think that's correct.

It will be very interesting how the line up shakes out. Obviously White is going to have to be on the floor for 30+ minutes a game when the competition ramps up. The weakest position is center but can White fill that against quality teams is the question. Can White, Basabe and Archie play effectively together?

You people are funny. Let's wait and see what this team does against someone with a pulse before we start crowning the program as being back. Geez!

White is NOT a 5. He can play that position, more or less, against other teams that don't have a 5. But he is really more like a point forward.

I am not comparing him to LB, because he had a different game, but White will do some of the same things LB did with moving the ball around on the front line. When the other players get used to it, it will lead to many easy baskets.

There are just players that can slow the game down. LB did it. Tyler Smith did it his one year at Iowa. Jake Kelly flashed that ability as well.

The three that White missed at the end of the game is a good example. He shot the ball short, saw it, came up for the long rebound and when the defense crashed, made a Bird like bounce pass that should have been an easy score. But the thing is that he didn't looked rushed at any point.

You just can't teach that.
