A year of growth

I am a little disappointed we didn't get to the dance but not shocked. I knew with the freshmen starting it would be iffy(getting to dance). Lets be honest here. Over the last three years Fran's teams have showed improvement as a team and individual improvement among the players. The last two coaches could not say that. The recruiting has improved also. We gave some of the best teams in the country a run for their money and one break here or there and we win those games. The freshmen usually make big strides when they go to their sophomore years. I expect that to be the case with all the freshmen. Next year should be the year of the Hawkeye and I have been pointing to next season for over two years. I fully believe it will happen. GO HAWkS and tear up the NiT and win the whole thing.

Agreed with these thoughts on another thread. 6th in the B1G, bubble team to the end: that's surprising improvement. Next year, we need center improvement and shooting help. Put more muscle on Woody and with the steady improvement he and GO keep making, that's going to happen. Add Jok and Uthoff with more experience to our returning guards and shooting will improve. With a deep NIT run and the Europe trip we may still see improvement happening before the fall. Go do it Hawks!

Nit wit win or lose will be forgotten a month from now. It is meaningless compared to the NCAA if this team is better next year no one can say whether it is extra time in the nit wit or offseason workouts and extra time in the weight room which makes us better.

Coherent much? Look back over the NIT fields over the years to see which ones used that tourney as a springboard to the next year. Who can say if that answers whatever you were saying but it supports the point I was making.

I'm assuming anyone who posts at 3:31 AM is drunk.

Next year is the year. All our freshman with a year of experience, white a junior, basabe, marble a senior, add jok and utoff, next year l

I have been very excited about next year's team, too, and have posted as such. However, after the MSU game, it is clear that our guards are not up to helping get this team to Elite status. Just IMHO, neither Gesell or Clemmons is quick enough to get around the upper echelon guards around the country and draw the defense in or get to the hole.

In the last 10 minutes, I don't recall either of them (or Marble for that matter) getting by their man and penetrate.

I think we are going to be stacked at positions 2 through 5, but Appling totally dominated our point guards. There are a lot of guards out there in the Elite group of teams that are as good as Appling, and right now, we don't have one.

Nah, both gessel and Clemons will hold their own. Gessel is very well rounded as a player, decent quicks, he will be fine.

I think both will be fine too, but we're still missing that guy who can create off the dribble when no one else is able to. Marble just isn't that guy. Not quick enough and not good enough handles. Clemmons can get to the rim at times, but not consistently and under control. Mike is quick, but doesn't have the ability either to consistently break his defender down.

Rather than phrase it as "Stacked at positions 2 through 5", I would rephrase it as "Above average at positions 3 through 5".
