2013 2014 Preseason Top 25 Part 2 - RealGM

This is the second prediction I have seen placing Iowa 13th for next year...the first one was from beyondthebets.com that was based on Vegas odds...this one is based on tempo free stats, returning minutes, returning possessions, etc.....NuSkool stuff.

Iowa returns 89% of its minutes and 93% of its possessions, higher percentages than all but two teams on that list.

Tempo free stats love Wisconsin...in fact, here is an article explaining why

It will be interesting to see how Bo does with them next year, to be sure. Here is part one of those rankings...they have MSU #2, which is line with me thinking they are a Top 5 preseason team...Michigan 6th (we'll see how many they lose) and Wisconsin 10th (not a chance).

They have Ohio State 16th...and Indiana not ranked. A good read

Haha LMAO. Wisconsin is in your psyche so much it's crazy. I love it!!:)

You have to go out of your way to dig at Wisconsin every chance. I love seeing that. Let's me know how jealous you are:)

Ha!

I wonder if Rick Barnes makes after next season without market improvement from the Longhorns. He had great early success but has really fallen as of late.

They'll finish in the top 4 of the B10 like they do every other season. Its best just to accept it. You can still take comfort in the fact that they will play some of the most unwatchable basketball known to man, but they always get it done, even when they lose really good players.

And, yet, here you are trolling an Iowa site....

He said not a chance at being #10 nationally. Do you honestly believe Wisky will be 10th nationally next year? Anyways its his opinion so why do you care so much. Its funny that the only time you show up is either win Iowa loses or Jon makes a comment about Wisky. Seems that you can't handle some dislike for your team, a troll of the worst kind. Only show up when its advantageous for you, but that's fine keep being jealous and butthurt over comments on an Iowa fan board.

I heard an interview with Bilas today on ESPN. He said that the powers to be understand that college bb has a problem with refereeing...scoring is at an alltime low.
He said there will be a push this summer to eliminate handchecking, bumping in the lane and on cutters and drivers, and lower body bumping(Wisky specialty) .....the NBA consciously decided to change how their refs call this, and the league is now experiencing high scoring, and higher interest. PG's are key in that league now. College officials will be required to call it according to the rules...block/charge also.

Wisconsin's style has helped ruin college bb...but finally their time is passing.

WI’s biggest loss is it’s entire starting frontline that includes 50% of it’s scoring and 50% of it’s rebounding. Returning there is Kaminsky, Dekker, and ??? Dekker is really a guard and Frank is only one guy. Other returners up front have 0 experience and frontcourt recruits are all 3*. Even with a very good B1G frontcourt, WI was middle of the pack at best in conference rebounding. Is WI planning on becoming a running team? Because with what they have coming back and coming in they could be a pretty good running team. But a team that needs to rebound to maintain a half-court tempo?- no way. Uthoff’s departure will be felt up front for them. It’s going to be interesting to see how Bo handles this team. He could surely see it coming so I’m sure he has a plan. But if that plan depends on rebounding or post scoring, WI’s not gonna maintain a 4th place finish in the B1G.

About Iowa being ranked #13, it seems that someone was watching the NIT. To maintain that ranking, IA will have to find another scorer to pick up the slack when Marble is off.

actually, I was just answering your weak sauce before you posted it

I think Iowa has a better chance at being ranked 13th at some point next season than Wisconsin has at being ranked 10th...FWIW.

Someone re-post Jon's BIG predictions for this past season for all BIG teams. I guarantee Wisconsin is out of the Top 4 and I'm sure the commentary says something to the effect that Jordan Taylor is irreplaceable.

I'd put Iowa somewhere in the Top 25 pre-season.

It is long overdue that the refereeing change, especially in the BIG. The sad part is that we had to watch Iowa try to become this team for 3 years under Lick. What awful BB that was watch. Nothing is worse than watching a BB game with scoring in the 40's and 50's.

This is why teams that are much more talented (like Michigan) can finish 5th in the BIG. When you just mug them, bump them, hold them, handcheck, and bodycheck them all game, that is the great equalizer. It should be ended, cause it is ruining BIG BB in general. We have the most talent, and are the best conference, but I would rather watch an ACC or Big 12 game over a BIG game without Iowa, because at least those conferences, the refs let the players play BB, and not just mug and thug ball.

Here are Jon's Pre-BIG predictions for 2012-2013. I didn't include several snide comments about if Ben Brust is going to be one of the starting guards due to Josh Gasser going down that "Wisconsin is going to be in a world of hurt."

He also (as he always does) gave a caveat to tempo free statistics when in relation to Wisconsin. He posts a link for that every time. So I guess by picking Wisconsin for 7th this next year that I guess Jon is learning? Slowly but surely.

JON MILLER’S BIG TEN POWER RANKINGS
1. Indiana
2. Michigan
-These two are on their own tier, better than anyone else I have seen at this point by a wide margin.

3. Minnesota
4. Michigan State
5. Ohio State
6. Illinois
-more separation here, although Illinois still may be a bit of a pretender for this tier. I think of a neutral site game and who I think would win. Michigan State is gonna ugly things up all year. I am not sure how much of a gap there is between Illinois at six and…

7. Iowa
8. Wisconsin
9. Northwestern
10. Nebrasaka
11. Purdue
12. Penn State

Now you are just lying. Those are his power rankings after the first week. They actually mirror exactly what ESPN's power rankings were at the time also:

Conference Power Rankings: Big Ten - Men's College Basketball Nation Blog - ESPN

He did POWER RANKINGS every week, and that is what pizzed you off. Even though, they were pretty much what everyone nationally thought, including ESPN putting them at 8th after that first week in the BIG.

They were. I didn't think they'd be as good this year as they were last year. I was wrong about they and wrote and said as much.
