Got my first look at Athlon's 2016 Football Preview Magazine today.

Here are a few Hawkeye related snipets from the Preview:

Desmond King is a 1st Team All American pick
Sean Welsh is a 2nd Team All American pick
Josey Jewell is a 3rd Team All American Pick

Hawks are pegged at # 20 in the preseason rankings - picked to win the West Division of the Big Ten

CJ Beathard is listed as the # 14 overall D-1 QB entering the year

Ferentz is listed as the # 4 overall best coach in the Big 10 behind Urban Meyer, Harbaugh and Dantonio

I think its amazing that Harbaugh has been crowned as a top rated coach after one year in the BT in one of the easiest schools in the country to recruit 4 and 5 star athletes. I thought he left his pro job under a cloud...was not well liked at all. Maybe my memory is false? I am not about to grant him sainthood until he has been at Michigan for 4 or 5 years and really starts to dominate. We shall see...we shall see.

He deserves the respect. Won an Orange Bowl at Stanford, In his 4 years at San Fran he took them to a Superbowl and 2 NFC championship games. Granted he got out at the right time and took the Michigan job where he's already won a bowl game. I think those results are solid.

Sounds like a joke of a magazine.

I would have to be honest and say I agree with this. I expect Michigan to come back to prominence in the B1G and give Ohio State all they want.

We're back

I'm not sure I agree with all the 'love' for Meatchicken and Hardball....I think Rudock made him look like a genius last year but I don't see any of their current QB's (even A'Korn) being able to replicate that success, especially with road games at Mich. St, at Iowa and at Ohio st. They'll be LUCKY to pull out ONE win in those 3 games. I agree that Michigan is better than they have been in the last 10(?) years, but they have ALOT to PROVE yet before they deserve all this 'love'...

:D

Let me say I hope I am totally wrong. It wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit if their program crashes and burns to dust and then a strong wind comes along and blows them away. :D

They will probably be 8-0 going into Mich. St. game. They go 1-2 in those 3 road games and we are talking 10-2. Remember Ohio St. sent what seems like their entire roster to the NFL. For OSU this is a "rebuild" year for them.

Hard to argue that when they play 6 of their first 7 games at home, but I will point out that they will only have played 7 games before they play Mich. St. so it will be very difficult for them to be 8-0 :) Almost impossible :) Noticed they play 8 of 12 at home. How convenient. I still think they will slip up before they play Mich. St. though. They could play Colo. like they did against Utah last year or they could overlook Penn. St. or Wisky....anyway I see a loss in there...

The Big Ten can be brutal for coaches, unless you coach at Indy, Purdue or NW. How many first year or interim coaches did Iowa play against last year? This year still has a lot of new blood but 3 key first year coaches from last year have turned into 2nd year coaches, when you expect teams to get better.

First year coach
Iowa St, ILL, Rut, Minn*

2nd year coach
Wisc, Neb, Mich

3rd year coach
Penn St

4th year
Pur

5+
NW

So what were the rankings by position within the Big 10? I always find that to be the most efficient way to benefit from the Athlon previews.

.

Probably where I'd have them ranked as well, based on past performance. I don't care for coaches 1-3 on this list but I can't deny their results.

As bad as I hate it, I have to agree.

Boy, really shows you how weak he thinks the BIG West is as he has the winner only at #20. Not that I disagree but really shows what people think.

I would have to agree with you guys. It's obvious harbaugh is a very good coach and he could probably recruit well to any school

How could Ruddock make Harbaugh look like a genius and yet he was not that good at Iowa the year before??? Hmmm...I guess maybe the coach made Ruddock look good??? I don't like Harbaugh. But he did a great job with Jake and is a joke to make it seem like it was the other way around. Look at what Harbaugh did at Stanford AND SF and he deserves respect, begrudging though it may be.

...... or it could be all the 4* plus athletes all around Jake to make him look better.

If you think Rudock was the problem at Iowa the year before, than I'm probably not going to make you understand some simple concepts or facts. If you're willing to listen and learn, I'll explain it to you...
