A dual threat QB?--yes please!

From what you read, Lainez is touted as a dual-threat QB. (We wouldn't know from '23, as only Hill played once McNamara was injured the last time. )

In Chad Leistikow's recent article, there's this about the Hawks' incoming FL QB: While a passer first, Resar (6-foot-4, 205 pounds) runs a 10.67-second 100-meter dash and possesses the ability to operate zone-reads and scramble out of trouble. Barnes said he is confident Resar will break 10.5 this spring in track.

In 2002, Brad Banks ran 70 times for 257 yards according to Google. CJ Beathard ran for 237 yards in 2015. Those were two of the very best seasons in the KF era. Per the Leistikow article, Stanley, Petras, Padilla, McNamara and Hill ran for a combined -602. So why is KF so seemingly inextricably tied to a statue, or at least a non-mobile QB? It can't be "ball security", because Hill was statistically the QB with the most plays where there was the possibility of a turnover in the nation in 2023.

Here's fervently hoping the new OC will combine with New Kirk 3.0 to follow McNamara with a string of mobile, dual-threat QBs to truly transform what is now the last in the nation in total offense "offensive offense" into the "complimentary" offense KF says he wants!

At this point I'd like to see Mainz. Could he really be worse than Hill? Riding a lame horse isn't just caution, it's stupid.

KF has apparently approved the recruitment and signing of 3 straight dual threat QB’s following Stanley, Petras, and in a pinch, Hill. In the meantime, he brought a transfer in who won a BT championship at Michigan. You guys who are bitching about KF’s inability to change up for, potentially, a significant change in the offense. Jesus H. Christ! Are you deaf and blind?

Nah, just sarcastic. I added four more happy faces to emphasize that the point was light hearted in nature.

How long you been watching KF at Iowa? You can fervently hope all you want. What you hope for ain't happening.

Why on Earth would you stop at 2? Shaken, not stirred.

That damn Hendricks doesn't pour itself

I've been excited about Resar and his speed for quite sometime and have posted so in other threads. Then I realized that he may be fast but suck as a QB. I don't care if they're dual threat or not. I just want them to be a threat.
Wrong football program buddy. Also you might as well wish for a conference title and maybe Santa Clause will deliver it.

Twenty years is too long hoping Santa will perform a miracle.

Two things can be true at the same time. Yes, KF has made efforts to improve the QB position of late, including bringing in a veteran QB that was sought after by half the country, and recruiting and signing some young QBs that are not potted plants back there. Those are great steps, and the main one was thwarted by injury. I will give KF credit for the effort.

But, where he again falls down is having the stones to follow through with the necessary changes on the field. I don't have an issue bringing Hill in as a back-up and even seeing whether he was the third QB Iowa Chuck. Um, he aint. Its obvious to everyone. Continuing to play QBs who are ineffective or worse is just dumb. Labas is not great, but he brings an element with his legs that was at least worthy of a series or package. How could he have been any worse than Hill????? Also, How bad could have the true frosh been that he could not get a series here or there? No, instead KF spent the entirety of practice time just trying to coach Hill into not sucking. He does not allow for creative thought in season; his only answer is to grind. So, KF shoulders that in my mind.

Although KF is stubborn he's never been this kind of stubborn. KF knows football, far more than us posters know it. He clearly had to see the embarrassing QBing. He knows the line has played poorly hence the need for some mobility at QB and then played guys with none.

The coaches have talked up Lainz III for years. So let's play him and see how he performs at least as well as the guy that just had four turnovers in a half.

KF is smart. KF has forgotten more about football than any of us will ever know. But, he has been doing this for a long time and at a high level, and he is slow to change the way he does things. He is capable of change, but not on a dime, especially when it comes to the QB position. He trusts what he saw in camp and during practice, and isn't going to let things like lack of execution in game after game change what he knows. What he knows is that Hill sucks the least of the available QBs, and he likes the suck that he knows.

I would be shocked to see anyone but Hill under center.

Don't even care about the qb position right now. First get a damn O line coordinator that can teach blocking. Design plays that aren't in the how to defend Iowa Hawkeyes offense for dummies 101. Until we can line up and take a snap that 85% of us Hawk fans and opposing defenses already know coming, then it really doesn't matter if it's Mahomes, Jackson, or the retired Tom Brady back taking the snap. Results would be the same.
There is No offensive identity established with this Era of Iowa team
I can remember games we used to win and announcers talking that Iowa only had 175 yards rushing for the game as if the team was broke. What Kirk hasn't figured out as of late is you can play complimentary football with low risk but get good at those things it needs to make it. Tuff physical o-line and physical hard hitting and grinding running game to where a opposing Lb is grateful you attempted a pass once just so he wouldn't have to feel the pain on a play. Right now whether pass or run we suck pretty much at both.

IDK, if we subbed in Patrick Mahommes for Deacon Hill, I think our offensive performance might improve just a smidge.....

I agree with most of what you said but I also think the second biggest area of concern is the quarterback position. I also believe that we need a good quarterbacks coach. Our development of the quarterback position has been atrocious for most if not all of Kirks time with Iowa.

Both Arizona vs Oklahoma will be starting Freshman QB's in the Alamo Bowl tomorrow.
Will Iowa give Lainez a shot?
