A commercial like this can get me back into the NBA

I think the NBA has just become a thuggish league, there are fewer and fewer players of the David Robinson/Tim Duncan/Magic Johnson/Bird caliber that I want my children to idolize. Instead there are people like Kobe/Lebron/Carmelo types that I never want my children to be like. Players demand trades so much I can't even buy an NBA jersey knowing the player will be there for more than a year.

And when did it become a requirement to have both arms tattooed with sleeves covering entire arms to play in the league. I have a few tattoo's myself, but c'mon. Almost everyone in the league has full sleeves.

I remember watching Jordan vs Johnson, Johnson vs Bird, and loving every second of it... Now I puke when I think about Kobe vs Lebron, Lebron vs Carmelo and I couldn't even tell you why. I hate the NBA. I'd watch all the Iowa football games (even loses) on my DVR than watch this piece of trash league.

Question for those of you complaining about today's NBA superstars, have you seen Derek Rose? DRose has gotten me back into the NBA game as you never know when he is going to turn it on and take over a game. When they interview him he seems like one of the most humble players in the NBA.

Well after reading your post I'm pretty sure I could guess what the reason is.

Also, you said you would never want your kids to be like LeBron, would you want them to be like Jordan? By all accounts LeBron is a good kid who just made some poor pr decisions, Jordan on the other hand is a complete ******* but you have no problem rooting for him.

Good to know ssckelley, but it's hard to get behind a product that celebrates the name on the back of the jersey instead of the front, and that is how Stearn has marketed his league, and I think that is why the league struggles to appeal to a wider audience. Just my 2 cents.

This was true 10 years ago. If you stopped watching at that point, then you're really missing out. For the record, I held the same opinion as you up until last season.

And tattoos don't make a guy a thug. The NFL is loaded with guys tatted up, too.

How is the NBA any different from the rest of pro sports in that regard? In the NFL, it's Tom Brady/Peyton Manning/Aaron Rodgers/Adrian Peterson/etc. In MLB, it's Albert Pujols/Derek Jeter/Roy Halladay/etc. NHL it's Crosby/Ovechkin/etc.

Without superstars, there isn't much to market. Would the old Celtics have been "The Celtics" with guys like Bill Russell or Larry Bird? The Lakers without Magic or Jerry West? The superstars will ALWAYS be more celebrated. It's been that way for a long time, especially since the dawn of free agency.

Check out a Bulls game when you get a chance as he is very entertaining to watch and his interviews are not what you expect of a young man that just signed a 90+ million contract. It is rare to find a superstar that worries more about getting his teammates involved in a game more than his own stats. You watch him play and it is completely unselfish.

What I don't get is why the NBA gets the venom it gets. People like to go out of their way to say how much they hate the game. It's weird. On opening day it seemed like there was a crap ton of posts about not caring about the NBA.

That's cool and all but who really cares. I don't like a lot of the **** people like but I don't go out of my way to point it out.
