9-3 season still alive!!

i love that we have a coach who decides a few games a year that the offense will need to score points to win.

While 9-3 isn’t a bad record, our signature win was against a good MN team at home with nothing on the line for Iowa besides San Diego

Imagine if we tried to score points against UM and PSU!!! Nah, let’s save it for it for the Pig Trophy

Yah, we didn't even try. They don't care.

There is nothing earth shattering here, it is only common sense. I mean a 10 win team likely has 3 losses to winning teams. a 9 win team likely has 4 losses to winning teams and a 8 win team likely has 5 losses to winning teams.

I'm not sure why people all of a sudden think this is something new and earth shattering this has been the case for 4 decades now. Do people think teams lose 5 times to non winning teams, but beat 5 winning teams each year to get to 8 wins?
The funny part is that the narrative used to be Kirk always loses at least one game we shouldn’t, and wins won we shouldn’t.

Well so far this year we have won all the games we were supposed to win or we were favored in and lost all the games we were expected to lose.

That narrative disappeared. Iowa is 2-3 against P5 teams with winning records. That’s not good but hardly embarrassing considering the losses all came to top 15 teams, two of which were road games.

Maybe, but Wisconsin was holding a 9 pt lead on Illinois and had just driven to the Ilini 24 yd line with 3-4 min left in the game. Think about the odds of Wisconsin losing that game in that situation: 1 in 100? 1 in 1,000? 1 in 1,000,000? KF will play the Illinois game completely different than the MN game where he knew he had to score points. Illinois has been winning with TOs; Iowa will play conservative on offense and figure if we win the TO battle or break even we should win the game.

What do you think the odds of winning were when they were down 31-10 heading into the 4th quarter while playing in East Lansing? My point being that they are a 2nd half team that finds ways to win. If we play to not lose, we're going to leave the door open for them.

Aren't we Blessed that his son will be next Coach? Soon I think. A 10 win and he bails. Just a Hunch. Players allowed to PLAY and we Won. Hawk Players Tough.

I can see Kirk walking off into the sunset and retiring with a 10 win season, believing that the 10 win season gives him leverage to get Brian through the door as the new head coach, also knowing he has a walkover boss in Barta who can be convinced to do it.

Brian has done nothing to prove he's worthy at this point. The only thing I could see would be promoting him to assistant head coach and then Kirk stepping down after the first game of the season. But he would more likely want to give Brian a senior laden team like this one where he's guaranteed to turn in a respectable bowl game so long as he doesn't mess anything up. So maybe 2021 with Petras in his second year as a starter, where he has Kallenberger and compatriots as upperclassmen, Nixon as a senior, Tracy and Goodson as Juniors...

Well Nuff Said huh. Next Win. Nate and others Showed Them. Gophers Good. Per Don Patterson, he says Best Set of Receivers in College Football and Eddie on radio raved about Pass Routes. Hawks did very well indeed. Illinois Next.

Will you guys stop with the “Brian will be the next head coach at Iowa” routine? It’s boring, pure speculation, based on the assumption that KF will magically make it happen.

Pure Speculation: I would guess that there is about a 5% chance or less that Brian will be the next head coach.

Point well taken! Next Game Hawk Players win.

I think this Iowa team could beat either Georgia or Bama in a bowl game this year if we didn't have anyone sit out to preserve draft stock. Those teams give absolutely zero shits about non-playoff bowl games. What I wouldn't want to see is Iowa drawing someone like Auburn, who has a chip on their shoulder and is looking to build momentum going into next year. When Iowa has drawn that second cut SEC team, other than South Carolina, it hasn't gone well. That #5 kid on Auburn would have like 4 sacks and 10 hurries in the first half alone because we ain't got a guard or even combo of interior linemen who could block him. He's the real freaking deal.

I too like the Dawgs having lived there for 25 yrs. I always thought of former coach Mark Richt the Kirk Ferentz of the SEC. Will be moving back down to Georgia this next spring. Living here in Minnesota, I can’t tell you how satisfying this win was. I’ve hated living here from day one. Glad these pompous asses got their just desserts. There is nothing about this state that I like. Hawkeye for life!

Oof, not until spring? That sucks. I was at the Clemson Saturday and it was t-shirt weather for the tailgate. Mid 60s and sunny. Got a little sunburn. Georgia is so much nicer than Minnesota it ain't funny. You gonna be around Atlanta?

I’d have to check my notes but I think we beat a second tier SEC team Mississippi State just last year.

From what I’ve gathered Iowa is likely headed to the Holiday Bowl Vs a Pac12 opponent.

Obviously not winning the west isn’t ideal be we can still get to 9 wins and potentially 10 with a bowl win. Could finish the season inside the top 15.

As I’ve said many times I think recruiting has been on the upswing the last few cycles and having a 10 win season and top 15 finish would only help the coaches to continue to sell the program on the recruiting trail.

I picked Iowa to win. Thanks for reading my preview. o_O
I did read your post. What was your total W-L prediction? Did you have them possibly winning 10 games this season? Every preseason prediction I’ve read from the media was 7-5 at best. Seems like the same predictions year in and year out. That’s what I’m calling you guys out on.

I'll never forget the time Jon picked Iowa to win every game because he couldn't see a game that Iowa would lose. I can't remember which year it was but I remember it was a clunker (it might have been 2005).

No I will be back in Valdosta. Iowa has some strong ties to Valdosta State. Just wish they would recruit the Valdosta and Thomasville areas a little harder. Some of the best talent in Georgia come that area. More State Championships come that area than any other high school programs in the entire country. That’s why Valdosta’s nickname is “Winnersville.”

If he picked them to win every game every year, he would still have a better winning percentage than he does now.

Hawkinn, has a point when you consider the hawks didnt score much and they only lost those 3 games by about 5 points each. Hell just somehow scratch out a TD in this day of high powered scoring and the hawks might be 9-1.
That's exactly why everyone is so frustrated with the O.

I stand corrected, I thought Wisconsin had 3 losses. My bad
The good news for Minnesota is they could lose next week and then beat Wisconsin and still win the west but they probably have to beat Wiscy either way, unless Purdue somehow beats Wisconsin, then Minnie can clinch with a win against NW. Wiscy probably needs to win out but they also control their destiny.
