Just wondered if you were posting an apology to me for the prediction I made on the Husker/Wiscy game? Calling me an idiot...etc, etc,. Then I gave you a 50 year synopsis on my following the huskers. I believe every point of your CURRENT team I nailed!!!!

You weren't the only one, people tried telling him Wisconsin would roll but yet he thought the "black shirts" were better then they are and was convinced it would be a close game. He said he would be back to take his medicine so let's see.

The bad news for us now is with OSU coming to Lincoln their D will look stellar again because the OSU offense sucks so bad it will inflate the egos again.

I said we would lose big (to me an 11 point loss is big), I just didn’t see it playing out this way. And I never said that the black shirts were good this year, they have been putrid all year.

This is what you wrote:

“Typical Husker backer...talking past records. This game will played with your defense that has been less then stellar so far this year. Your offense that has no identity, mainly because your head coach is a D coordinator and not head coach material. You will lose your first game in the Big 10...it will be closer then most think because Wisconsin is untested. If Wisconsin runs the ball right at you it will be a long night for the skers.
I say Wisconsin gives you a dose of smash mouth football. Welcome to the Big Ten Wisconsin 34 - Nebraska 10 “

With the exception of you saying our defense has been less than stellar this year, which I have admitted to on numerous occasions, your post was pretty much nonsensical drivel. Yes, you got lucky on your prediction, but you were way off on how it got there. I’ll explain below.

I saw one post where a few posters wanted to nominate me for most delusional poster. Most delusional poster, how so, because I thought that our defense was going to be good this year? I wasn’t being delusional, I was just flat out wrong. I had no idea how good this team was as I have stated before. I do believe that I said that Nebraska wasn’t a top 10 team. Again, I’ll explain below.

I thought that the only way we’d get blown out is if we decidedly lost the turnover battle, and we lost it by 14 points. This game was one good team playing against a team with a bad defense and a new offense, and it showed. I really wish that this defense would be more similar to what we have put on the field the previous 2 years, but this may be the worst Pelini defense we have ever seen at Nebraska.

I have no idea what it going on with our defense, but our secondary is garbage. I don’t know if it’s from losing Sanders, or from losing 3 NFL caliber DB’s but it is frustrating to see a first level DB release a guy to the second level, only to find that the second level guy has bit on a fake, or missed his assignment. This happened a few times earlier this year, but sometimes the QB made the play (Washington), sometimes they didn’t. Wilson made us pay more often than not if those instances. There was one play early on where Evans and Stafford both had a shot at Toon, Evans had the ball go right through his hands, Stafford couldn’t separate Toon from the ball, and they guy made a great football play. You have to tip your cap to him. Our tackling has been horrendous all year, it showed up against Fresno, Washington, Wyoming, and now Wisconsin. There were many times when our dline and/or lb’s had shots on Wilson, and we just whiffed on the play. Totally unacceptable. With the exception of late in the game when our defense had been on the field the entire game and Wisconsin’s big O-line wore us down (which was to be expected), I wasn’t overly impressed with their O-line. I expected Wisconsin to grind it out on the ground all game, but the majority of the plays that hurt us were big plays in the passing game against busted coverages. They weren’t blowing our defense off the ball early, and we had shots at Wilson, but we whiffed more than we made plays. I thought that in year 4, with him getting his own recruits, that we would be able to reload this defense, but we obviously haven’t this year.

I was surprised at our offense early on, and late in the game. Wisconsin’s defensive line was very pedestrian, very underwhelming, and that is against a very young offensive line that has looked really bad in the past few years. There were plenty of yards to be had against them, and when we rode Rex or let Taylor do his thing on the ground, we were able to move the ball and grind it out against them, which surprised me. Early on, Taylor was actually hitting his receivers, and the offense looked very good. I’m not sure what OC Tim Beck was thinking there in the second quarter, but it seems like he went kindof Shawn Watson and got a little cute, and got away from the game plan. Then, Taylor went knucklehead, stopped going through his progressions, totally forgot about dumping passes off to Burkhead in the flat, and started splitting the numbers of the defenders with his passes. Apparently, there were WR’s running wide open, but Taylor didn’t check to them. We lost momentum, Taylor went into the tank, and according to Dennard, some of our players quit. Penalties were a problem, we lost composure, and seemed to panic. It snowballed, and we ended up getting pimp-slapped.

Totally unacceptable, embarrassing.

To sum it up, if this is the best team in the Big 10, and if they are the most physical team in the league, I wasn’t overly impressed. They are good, but they are not elite. Wisconsin isn’t the 4th best team in the nation, there are probably 4 or 5 better SEC teams, and 3 or 4 better Big 12 teams. Physicality will not be an issue, Oklahoma and Texas A&M were more physical last year. texa$$, at least defensively, was more physical. Wisconsin won by having a better gameplan, sticking with the plan, and executing it. We were outcoached, we made mistakes and had mental breakdowns on both sides of the ball, Wisconsin took advantage of those mistakes, made plays, and executed. They won and deserved to win, congrats to them, but I hope we get another shot at them.

On a side note, I’ve heard plenty of Hawk fans complain about the refs, and I think that it was the Washington game, we had Big 10 refs, and they were brutal. I saw quite a few calls/non-calls that really had me scratching my head. We got a very ticky-tack pass interference, and an equally ticky-tack defensive holding call on third downs, both extended the drives and they ended in touchdowns. We had a 3rd down play in which our WR was hit while the ball was in the air, and his arm was held, not allowing him to catch the ball, but no flag was thrown. While watching “highlights” from the game last night, I noticed that there was a Wilson TD run in which 2 of our DL’s were getting held at the point of attack, and a Ball TD run in which there was a hold at the point of attack, yet neither were flagged. Probably the worst no-call was Ball’s first TD run, at the end of which he punched Fisher in the face right in front of the officials, yet they did not call the personal foul. Are the refs always this bad, or was this an isolated issue? I AM IN NO WAY SAYING THAT IF THE GAME WAS CALLED 100% CORRECTLY, OR THAT IF WE GOT THOSE CALLS WE WOULD HAVE WON THE GAME. THE REFS DID NOT CAUSE NEBRASKA TO LOSE THIS GAME, WE LOST CAUSE WE SUCKED AND WOULD HAVE LOST REGARDLESS!!!! I was just curious if you guys noticed the same thing, or if me and my crew were watching through Scarlet colored glasses.

Ok, I expect to get it from ya'll, let me have it.

I just noticed you getting blown out on prime time national t.v. in your Big 10 debut. Wisky would have likely won the Big 10 without their current qb, but with him they are a national title contender. Just a bit of advice, when you get blown out it doesn't say much for your team when you say the team that just blew you out didn't impress you. I also noticed the crowd chanting Big Ten football.

Don't worry while you weren't impressed with Wisconsin winning by 31 nobody was impressed with Nebraska losing by 31 either.

You weren't impressed? So Oklahoma, A&M and all those SEC teams would beat Nebraska by more than 30 points?

Wouldn't expect them to be. This must be a rebuilding year, one that many (at least on defense) didn't see coming.

If we played that poorly, probably.

Edit: We were horrible.

I do not like the way this thread is stated, but I do like the point it is making. 74, we tried to tell you. Most of us have been around long enough to know what it takes to compete at the top of the B10. I am not saying yet the Hawks have it this year either, I think we are the youngest in the conf this year, but we could all see you guys didnt have it either, YET YOU THOUGHT YOU DID AND STATED SO OVER AND OVER. Which was rather annoying given you all are new and had no idea and frankly still dont, give it a few more weeks and let the grind start, then we will all see whats what.
So dont take this the wrong way as it is intended in a good spirited way, ah ha ha ha, you got b!tch slapped.

The B1G grind is just that, a grind. Many of you will not like it as it just won't be as exciting as you would like. Think of it as watching the Grizzlies as opposed to the Thunder, Butler instead of Memphis, or LSU instead of OKState.

The only things I vehemently disagreed with you about was how physical the league is and that there is no way that Taylor will make it through the season running as much as he does.

I always stated that Taylor could get hurt playing a B1G team, just as easily as he could against a Big 12 team, or a C-USA team. It’s a physical game.

The other point is that you feel that the B1G is a much more physical league than we are used to. I don’t know how Wisconsin stacks up against the rest of the B1G, but their d-line got almost no push at all. The running game was there for us, if we would have rode Rex and sprinkled Taylor in, we were getting 3, 4, or 5 yards a clip most of the time. Our d-line played like they had against the other teams we faced this year, until we got wore down in the 4th quarter due to the 10 minute discrepancy in time of possession. The reason we lost was because: 1) turnovers, 2) coaching (Wisc. had a better game plan), and 3) execution.

As I stated earlier, I thought that we would reload the defense, but after the Fresno game, it became pretty obvious (as I have said numerous times) that our defense isn’t right. I was wrong about that, and it doesn’t have much to do with what league we are playing in. We gave up what, 38 or 41 to Washington.

This team had a ton of question marks. It has talent, very young talent, but we are beginning to see what it actually is. I expect the ribbing, I'll take it, it is what it is.

Nebs D is loaded with talent. I honestly don't know why they aren't better. That's not a bash either, I'm being dead serious. As for their offense, their OC is a moron. Also, if Martinez goes down, it would be even worse.

I'm right there with you. I thought they would be one of the best defenses in the country this year. I still feel like they're capable of playing like that for games at a time, which is why I'm not going to read too much into them getting raped by Wisconsin.

Hey Nebby get used to this short bus trying to complete a pass a JV Quarterback could make.

I wouldn't go too hard on him guys; he'll just get you back when the Hawks lose in Lincoln. Karma's a *****.

They might actually be worse off if Burkhead went down.
