7-0 SEC in BCS Title Games

Well obviously it isn't THE answer, as the faster team lost tonight.

Speed still is the answer. It's the separating ingredient in college football. It's the breed of athlete that the SEC possesses on a wide scale. Big and Powerful and Slower (i.e. Big 10), is not as good as Big and Powerful and Faster....

It's the combination of speed and power that separates the SEC. Northern conferences can match up well in size... but not with speed.

That's why 11 or 12 of the 13 BCS titles have been won by Southern Schools. That's why the SEC is 7-0 in BCS championship games and "FIVE" teams from the SEC has won BCS titles.

Iowa is 3-1 against the SEC. Interesting.

And questionable ethics.

Big AND fast is the answer. If it were just about speed, Oregon wins last night. They were maybe slightly faster than Auburn, but Auburn was able to manhandle them as well as run with them.

Oregon shot themselves in the foot on multiple occasions, Two turnovers in Auburn territory, and then twice they had it inside the Auburn 10 and only ended up getting a field goal.

Auburn did not win this game because of they have (had?) superior team speed.

Ahhh but if they had more speed they would have gotten 2 td's instead of a field goal AND how do you think Auburn forced those 2 turnovers? SPEEEEEEEED.;):D:)

Iowa is 3-1 against the SEC. Interesting.

Iowa at best plays the 3rd best team in the SEC...Iowa cant compete with the top tier SEC teams. Auburn would kill us

Also, why is Oregon considered the faster team last night? James mightve been the fastest guy on the field but I saw Auburn show superior speed on multiple plays (two touchdown saving tackles from behind by the Auburn secondary saved the game for them)

Both teams have incredible talent but the difference was the size of the d line as point out by fufred. If Fairly played for Oregon they win

Iowa plays at best the 3rd best team in the SEC. But, when we play that team, we're usually the 3rd best team in the Big Ten. I wouldn't expect the 3rd or 4th best Big Ten team to hang with Auburn or Alabama.

Iowa is 3-1 against the SEC. Interesting.

in meaningless non BCS bowl games
point of the thread is in the championship games

and, credit to our players and coaches, Iowa shows up to play in bowl games with chips on their shoulders
fan support helps also, we travel very very well

a lot of these schools do not show up players nor fans

we complain a lot around here...but we should be thankful

Kaldenberg you're not stirring any pot you're not even stating facts only opinions. All you're stating is that if a kid plays for a southern school he is faster than a kid that plays from a northern school. If that has been scientifically proven then please show me the facts. And dont give me that BS they won 5 Straight NC's because that could be attributed to better coaching/preparation.

I'm sorry that I dont want to take my college football advice from someone who scouts talent while they are riding Mopeds.

These are my favorites. When someone actually states a statistic that is so overwhelming against their argument but they try to blow it off like it's BS. I guess I won't give you the 7-0 record the SEC has in BCS title games either because that's BS.

No one is stating if a kid plays for a southern school he's faster than a kid from a northern school on a granular level.... Of course the Big 10 has some starters who are faster than starters in the SEC at that same position. The Big 10 might even have the fastest player out of both conferences in a given year....

But the bottom line is, the SEC as a whole, has more team speed top to bottom, than the Big 10. Combine the SEC and Big 10 and rank each team in terms of team speed.... I bet 4 of the 5 fastest teams almost every single year would come from the SEC conference. And 7 or 8 (more often 8) of the top 10 would come from the SEC conference.... And a team from the Big 10 would win this new mega conference maybe, a big MAYBE, once every 4 to 5 years. The Big 10 would be like the Big 12 North in the Big 12 if they combined with the SEC.

Well said - I love how people try to use Iowa's 3-1 vs. SEC as some sort of argument the Big 10 is equal to SEC.

Any argument is actually amusing - that's why I love to stir the pot with these types of posts. Strictly for amusement.

i think that it was all about execution. auburn had an out- they could resort to power football if their spread style failed (which it did at times), oregon is a one act play- they have no other offense to go to. oregon averaged 300+ yds rushing per game and had 77 tonight. cam was the bulk of the auburn rushing attack, but tonight was held to below 30 yards.

Auburn's versatility on offense is what won the game. Iowa NEEDS this versatility to compete on this level.

Correct!!!!!!!!!!

I think he's simply stating that the SEC gets better athletes than any other conference. I think that was pretty obvious watching the SEC roll through their bowl games this year.

Sure, the SEC is superior. However, if Iowa was 1-3 it would be seen by many as more proof the Big Ten doesn't belong on the same field with the SEC, so Iowa's actual 3-1 record should at least count for something.
