6-foot-6 guard Moore could replace Hubbard

At this stage beggars can't be choosers and another body would be a good thing especially at PG.

That being said and just viewing this tape and seeing Hubbard play, I think Hubbard would have been more productive in Big Ten play.

Moore doesn't have an explosive break off his head and shoulder fake. Not what I would call quick. Again, I have only seen this AAU tape. Would love to have seen some sanctioned highlights. Then again when u r that tall off the top, all you need is one step, covering a lot of ground, to seal off the defender and create a lane.

Probably too hard to make a judgement one way or another from this clip

Fair enough, but the question at this point isn't whether he's better than Hubbard, it's whether he's better than Branden Stubbs. I'd be willing to bet on that one.

From what I've read, this kid seems to have some baggage as well. Hope Coach McCaffery knows what he's doing.

I'd rather have this kid for 4 years than Hubbard for 2.

He could play 1, 2, or 3 (Bill Jones) -- Fran likes the interchangeable parts, and this kid fits that bill.

Youth and versatility. I hope Fran gets him.

No doubt you know more about hoops than me, but I will say his shot looks better than Hubbard's if nothing else. Not like he looks like Reggie Miller or anything but it looks better than Hubb's.

Again, though, caution is needed since I'm looking at only a 1 1/2 minute clip of him and a few clips of Hubbard.

Could be tough to beat providence out. They are going after him hard. But moore says he wants to play PG in an up-and-down system. His mom has diabetes and isn't in tremendous health, so the awesome hospitals at U of I would have to be attractive as well.

Schools will tell him he can play PG, but they are lying. I don't think he will see time at PG at the D1 level, just my opinion. He has some flashy handles, but there's tons more to playing PG then some fancy breakdown moves...only 2 years of organized ball is going to be a huge limiter for someone with D1 PG aspirations. Plus with his size, the temptation to put him at 2 or 3 is going to be tremendous. I could be wrong.

I'm not knocking the kid at all - he looks darn good and I would take him in a heartbeat - I just think if I were him I'd advertise myself as a 2/3...there's no shame in that at all, it's just fitting your size/skills/background into the appropriate position.

You hit the nail on the head Olivecourt. Plus, having he and Devyn on the court, with their long wingspans, at the same time would create all kinds of problems for Iowa's opponents on the defensive end of the court, imo.

Before we go off spouting if he is a good fit at Iowa or not and if we even want him, we first have to see if he even wants us ... The headline on hawkcentral is written in a way it sort of sounds like we already have the kid ... Then, after reading the article, the kid does not even mention Iowa ...

I would say he can get to the rack better than anyone on our current roster. We need more of that to open up the rest of our game. If we can land him, I think we should try.

I agree. To me (certainly not an expert opinion, just my 2 cents), he seems too high and loose with the ball. Part of that is due to his 6'6" frame, but I could see it being a problem in the Big 10 as a PG.

This story reeks of Van Coleman throwing **** at the wall hoping something will stick. It's not a huge secret Van doesn't have the inside track to things going on at Iowa that he once did. As a result he's started throwing out things that he thinks makes sense but have no real traction. On more than one occasion Van has linked a school to a kid and later it's come out that the school had never even contacted the kid or the coach.

I'm not saying this kid wouldn't be a nice addition, I'm saying any recruiting article that quotes Van should be taken with a grain of salt.

That's a very good point. This article is incredibly poorly sourced-- it basically just restates everything that was written in a Hoopgroup.com article from two weeks ago and adds a couple of quotes from Coleman, who really doesn't have anything to do with anything. We don't know if the kid has been offered or even contacted by the Iowa coaches, and there is no information from Moore himself as to whether he'd even be interested.

On the other hand, we know that he is an unsigned guy who wants to play this year and is now academically eligible (26 on his ACT, which I'd guess is much higher than most of our recruits). There can't be many major programs other than Iowa that are in a position to give him that opportunity on August 2. It will be interesting to see if anything comes of it...

Edit: Just saw DFaceHawkeye's post. Encouraging.

We (those of us with pay accounts) have been hearing of Iowa coaches watching this kid at least during this past period. This is not Van Coleman trying to get something to stick. Iowa really is looking at this guy.

Hubbard had a hitch in his shot, but at least he could get it off. This kid has a slower release than me, and i suck.
