6/22: Indianola OL Keegan Render commits to Iowa

Re: new commit 6/22

Well, you can't coach big...so I like this kid already. By the time Doyle gets done with him, i'd say two years, it will take someone three seconds to just run around him. Geez, with Ross P in the left tackle spot...this is shaping up to be a huge offensive line in a few years...Blythe will be the center at around 310, Ward, Walsh, Keppy are all big dudes.

Me likey what we are doing here. And for the competing with Akron, Temple, etc crap...a three star OL from Iowa typically has upside when it's all over. Work ethic, heart, and toughness aren't a big part of the star equation. Size, speed, and level of competition drive more of that star rating stuff than anything else. When you get to a certain level of skill, then it's all technic, heart, and toughness. The latter two you can't coach.

Does interest from others count?
Render chose the Hawkeyes ahead of an offer from*Iowa State*and interest fromNorthern Illinois,*Notre Dame,*Wisconsin, among others. Iowa offered the 6-foot-4, 315-pounder a scholarship in June of last year.

For me personally, it is the analysis from recruiting services and guys like hawkeyegamefilm that mean more to me than an "offer list". Not saying that offer lists aren't impressive but Iowa hasn't had the best with highly touted players for whatever reason, busts, injuries or attrition. I like the move to the athletes with speed. Just really need to lock down an athletic pass rushing DE now.

Re: new commit 6/22

Congratulations to the new commits. I'm sure both of these young men will be great Hawkeyes.

That having been said, if you want to know why we're struggling look at the other schools we're competing with for some of the guys we get. Akron, Buffalo, Toledo... not exactly powerhouses.

Which recruit in particular are you unhappy with?

Re: new commit 6/22

Because there's no better show on the radio when it comes to finding out how the Drake Bulldogs are doing this off-season (3 times since they hired their new bball coach) and where else am I supposed to go to find out how the Menace and Barnstormers are doing every week??? And when no one else was spending time on the Iowa Corn Indy 250 and the Principal Charity Classic, they were riveting us with multiple interviews weeks in advance! So back off, pal!

My favorite part of the show is when the Cot-Man stops mid-sentence to finally swallow and take a breath as if he's eating a sandwich during the show and follows up an interview's reply to one of Garman's questions by asking the same question...

If I don't like what they're going to be talking about, I change the channel to some music or Jay Mohr, but I tend to like the local angles on stories more than the national guys since the locals don't hammer the same supposedly hot topic (or 2) for 3 hours...excluding DP and Jay Mohr...their shows are fun while doing that.

Wowsa Shaner. That was a passionate response..... #owned

Re: new commit 6/22

Any news on Matt Nelson's time frame for a decision? Is he being recruited by Iowa as a DE? Is he leaning anywhere?

Re: new commit 6/22

Getting Nelson would give Iowa 5 of the 6 top recruits in the state. I know clown fans are giddy over Lazard and don't get me wrong, I wish we could get him too. However Rivals is the only site that has him rated so high. Scout and ESPN have Lazard as more of a middle of the pack kid. Ross P. is the important one that Iowa needs to keep.

It's interesting to see how much people insert their own meaning and stretch interpretations...into what you post. Perhaps it's just a comprehension problem for some.

Perhaps we should put a picture of an old guy on our avitar and talk like were smart, therefore we can stretch their interpretation that were someone thats old and wise, formulating the perception off the truth that were really 35 and assistant managing our own 711.
Anything to keep from answering a question.

Re: new commit 6/22

If Gamefilm and Jumper are ok with the two recruits so am I. Thanks for the input gamefilm

Ha. I pass along good information from others, but as far as my personal opinion/evaluation of players, you don't need to listen to me. I am by no means an expert at evaluating high school athletes.

I like our recruits so far. Lots of linemen, four of the best five in the state with potential for one more. I'm liking our line a lot in the neat future
