6/22: Indianola OL Keegan Render commits to Iowa

Re: new commit 6/22

Gotta say that I'm pretty happy with the recruiting class thus far, considering last year. Locking down Iowa with 4 of the 5 best players (Ross, Scheel, LeGrand, and Render), especially considering that OL Iowa kids seem to work out very well for Iowa.

Tom Lemming was on with Garman and Cotlar this week and their one question relating to Iowa after their Iowa State love fest was about last season hurting Iowa on the recruiting trail...he said he's not seeing it right now, that kids are seeing a good program going through a rough spot with opportunities to play. He said what concerns him more than Iowa's record last year is how all of the new coaches will do when it comes to carving out recruiting areas.

Re: new commit 6/22

Congratulations to the new commits. I'm sure both of these young men will be great Hawkeyes.

That having been said, if you want to know why we're struggling look at the other schools we're competing with for some of the guys we get. Akron, Buffalo, Toledo... not exactly powerhouses.

Re: new commit 6/22

^ FYI Its because all the big wig schools know better to save their time and stay off iowas turf ;) recognize tricks!!

You're right, I should close my eyes and accept mediocrity.

Thanks for telling me "what kind of guy" I am. What was that about "awesome view from your seat high on that horse"? Look in the mirror bro. It will set you free.

There is truth to your statement though some still struggle to believe there is much to this or simply call you a hater. I have no complaint with the verbals thus far in this year's class but we rarely show the ability to land out of state candidates who have also received numerous offers from top 25 programs. You can see it in this year's class and several years prior as well.

Just saw this week that Indiana and Purdue both snatched up verbals from out of state candidates that had numerous offers from power programs......and look at what is happening at NW these days. Iowa does a good job of fishing on the edge and identifying those that aren't under the spotlight. I think White and B. Ferentz are welcome additions to the recruiting effort but we need more. I think this is one area that Ferentz has missed bringing in this necessary trait to his coaching staff in the past number of years.

It's an old debate. Hopefully we can show some strides in the ability to capture a few more of these special talents than we have in the past although I'm not seeing it necessarily in Iowa's recruiting pipeline for this year. As Mr. Miller's recent piece about Iowa's offensive stats show we especially need these special players on the offensive side of the ball.

You don't have to believe in the star rating system but tell me what is a better gauge of a player's talent level than looking at the list of schools who have offered? We're suppose to believe that Iowa has a magical eye for talent over numerous programs that are ranked nearly every year?

Because there's no better show on the radio when it comes to finding out how the Drake Bulldogs are doing this off-season (3 times since they hired their new bball coach) and where else am I supposed to go to find out how the Menace and Barnstormers are doing every week??? And when no one else was spending time on the Iowa Corn Indy 250 and the Principal Charity Classic, they were riveting us with multiple interviews weeks in advance! So back off, pal!

My favorite part of the show is when the Cot-Man stops mid-sentence to finally swallow and take a breath as if he's eating a sandwich during the show and follows up an interview's reply to one of Garman's questions by asking the same question...

If I don't like what they're going to be talking about, I change the channel to some music or Jay Mohr, but I tend to like the local angles on stories more than the national guys since the locals don't hammer the same supposedly hot topic (or 2) for 3 hours...excluding DP and Jay Mohr...their shows are fun while doing that.
