49ers Draft Beathard in 3rd Round

I don't think anyone saw this coming. I thought he'd be an UFA, maybe a 7th rounder but good for him all the same. Hopefully can beat out that unpatriotic douche

I'm not sure CJ is a great fit for "that" city.
I think the new GM & coach are doing a complete white washing of the 'culture' there. Needless to say you can't get much further away from Kaepernick than by going CJ Beathard..
If they are patient and it looks like they are building in a smart way CJ could be their version of Kirk Cousins that all the talking heads seem to think Shanahan has been somehow trying to get. I think Cousins is a good qb. But to get him it'd take a kings ransom of a trade plus you'd have to pay him a ton. Whatever that'd take is just way too steep of a price to me. Drafting a CJ in the 3rd round and developing him for a couple years might just produce themselves their own version of a Kirk Cousins type and save them a boat load of money allowing them to shore up the rest of the roster. Getting a Cousins now wouldn't magically get them in the playoffs next yr. I think what they've done so far between fleecing the Bears and getting 2 top 10 talented players and getting CJ as a developmental qb has been nothing short of genius. Now granted time will tell but as far as a QB minded coach and team situation goes CJ is in as good of a spot as can be.

Kaepernick was released he's a FA.

CJ is 3rd behind Barkley and Hoyer. Hoyer is as much of a stop gap filler of a player as you'll ever see. Their coach Shanahan likes him so he'll probably be around a couple years but no more than that. It'll be interesting to see how CJ does in preseason. As 3rd stringer he'll probably play alot. I can see him playing similarly to how Kirk Cousins has. Just have to surround him with some play makers. Hyde is a good RB when he's healthy. They have a couple good TEs and they just got that Juscheck guy that's a heck of an Hback. Now like Iowa their WRs stink so that needs shoring up. As a 49ers fan I'm way more optimistic today than I was before the draft of what they are trying to do.

$700,000 signing bonus / $3MM contract potential. That buys a lot of diapers. I'm happy for him. That 2015 ride was really, really fun to watch and he orchestrated it all. Honestly, with the way our OL protected in 2016, he deserved some good fortune in the draft. He got it.

That kind of money will buy him a sweet pad in a trailer park in San Fran.

I'm a Niners fan too! I love the fact they picked up CJ, and it seems like they've had a great draft so far. I've always been a John Lynch fan. I think he'll get things moving in the right direction. I've always been a Niners fan, but I have to admit, after the whole kneeling during the National Anthem thing by Kap I couldn't root for them. Glad they are turning the page.

I'm happy for the young man how ever going this high in the draft is a shock.Have to think GRANDPA had something to do with this.NFL is a very tight fraternity.Just saying.

Love CJ and hope he kills it there but this was a reach by San Fran. They could have gotten him in the 5th had they wanted to.

No doubt I'm stoked that they got CJ. It's such a smarter route to improve team than by over drafting and then over paying for a QB. All the going after Cousins talk was crazy to me. He's a good QB not taking anything away from him but for what it'd take to get him/have him there's no way it's worth it. He's not Aaron Rogers good. So build up the rest of the team and develop a guy. Getting a guy like CJ late in the 3rd round has little to no risk with a possible huge pay off.

Speaking of Kirk Cousins many think he will be a 49er in 2018. I think scouts, talent evaluators have it right with CJB he will spend a decade as a backup for 2 or 3 teams. Not a bad gig, probably not the way he thought it would go, other than bouncing your family all over the country it is a good living.

Yeah that's the rumor. I'm not so sure if they'll be willing to break the bank to get Cousins after next yr. (if he isn't traded somewhere else before that) And then of course it depends on how CJ looks after being with them for a year and what other QBs coming out look like. I just never took a ton of stock in Cousins becoming a 49er. The cost of trading or signing him will be off the charts and they have so many other needs..

Not a bad gig, really a great gig. If he signs and it is a $700K bonus he has immediately made more money than one third of the people have in their lifetimes or close to it. Ten bucks an hour doesnt add up fast. If he finishes his contract and it is for over $3 million then a smart person can make that last a lifetime, real estate, whatever.

If he hangs around for 10 years great. Personally I think he has the arm and the smarts. If he gets his wheels back he will be pretty good. It is amazing how some of these players improve when they can practice all year, study film all the time, and have a really good position coach which I really dont think CJ did at Iowa.

As I told my son when college scouts were looking at him as a pitcher/catcher, one of the great gigs in baseball is backup catcher or even bullpen catcher if your knees can handle it.
